Drivetrain Airbox mod - Dremel VS. Removal
Ok, I took the risk of using a Dremel to cut an index-card sized hole in the plastic piece. (See detailed write-up from Randy if you don't know of what I speak)
I didn't want to take all that stuff off.
Let me begin with this warning:
You MUST be very careful when doing this as your brake lines are directly behind this panel!!!!!
It's easy to see this if you look from above.
I first made a surface score just to get an idea of where I wanted to cut. I then went back and cut through. On the right side is where the lines are extremely close (3-5MM) so I didn't cut all the way through. I used the wiggle and bend method to finish the job.
The entire cut took about 3 minutes and I was being extremely careful.
Another thing I'll say is that lots of the plastic melted and didn't really cut. So if you want a "pretty" job this probably isn't for you. After doing it, I'd probably not do it again. Just take the time and remove all that plastic.
Lastly, I'm VERY happy with the Rogue intake and cut job. I recommend (per Randy) to put the intake in, try it and then do the cut job. The cut job seems to give the car more torque. This is most noticeable in 3rd, 4th, and 5th if you just "roll on" the pedal to speed up a bit.
The car doesn't lose any driveability. If you drive it tamely then there is no change from a stock S. When you push the pedal down though you really hear that supercharger. It's a sharper sound whereas stock is there but muffled.

Hi John,
Not yet, but I'll be ordering the Magnaflow as soon as I can sneak it past the financial approval committee. (Wife)
I recommend giving Randy a call at Mini Motorsport. http://www.mini-motorsport.com He'll set you up right.

Thanks Jim,
I haven't gotten an intake yet, but will be buying a BMP from Randy soon, probably next week. I already have an exhaust, and one Randy doesn't sell. I went with the Supertrapp, and LOVE IT!
I was just curious if you did have exhaust and intake mods, if you had noticed any lean conditions with both. I have been told not to worry about that, but it's my nature to worry until I am sure.
Thanks for the input on the air box mod, I will be doing that too when I put in my BMP.
Later,
John
