I've had similar issues in the past
with a chip for my Mustang. Did great in GA where it was tuned. Ran like crap in CA with different gas. Guess it's not one size fits all.... A simple dyno tune here in CA (there goes $300 more) got me well over 15 hp, and got rid of almost all my pinging!
Also, with my MTH, some "standard" maps get a slight ping for me, I have to request some additional retardation. Don't know if it's my combo, my particular motor, or my gas.
Anyway, thanks for sharing. There's a lot of variation when better tunes are applied. Guess we know why Mini settled on a rather poor standard tune!

Dr. O, exactly. And its best to do a quick before and after to see what the real effect for your car. The thing I was most dissappointed with was I contacted GIAC USA and gave them my situation and asked if they could do a custom tune for me. They declined rather rudely. Oh well, I've got 3 other alternatives at this point that I'm pursuing. First is a Webb map Unichip with my stock ECU (GIAC removed), second is adding the AFC-select to the GIAC, third is the Perfect Power SMT-6 as a piggyback. Got all the hardware for these options. Just have to figure out which is best to pursue. Any suggestions?
I just saw an add in the latest European Car mag that states that
NEUSPEED has a MINI ECU flash.
Just released, NEUSPEED’s new OptiCan flash programmer will be coming to a NEUSPEED dealer near you. For most 1999-up late model Audi and Volkswagen applications, the days of sending your ECU to our headquarters for programming are over! Have your ECU programmed locally with little to no vehicle downtime.
