Drivetrain OK LAD's I GOT AN IDEA
OK LAD's I GOT AN IDEA
OK FIRSTLY IF THIS IS TOTALLY IMPRACTICAL BE NICE ITS ONLY A THOUGHT
was thinking about an intercooler modification, some people sell intercooler sprayers, dont know what sort of gains these give but I believe they work well especially in hot weather,
so I thought what if you use a compressed gas like CO2, spraying the intercooler it would be certainly better than air but probably a lot more expensive to run,
ok so here it is
what is the possibility of running a small dia copper tube through the intercooler in an out of the vains and plumbing it to a 12v solenoid valve
then plumbing that to the car's air con system,
you would probably have to top up the gas a small bit,
but here is how it would work
an aux switch fitted inside the car would prime the valve and divert the gas from the cabin air con to the intercooler
then when you switch on the ac compressor inside the car the gas would circulate through the copper pipe in the intercooler and cool the air rapidly
it would (in theory) be like an extra boost button,
can this work or would it put too much pressure on the ac compressor
and damage it
or would the system be too small to have any effect on the air passing through the intercooler ?????????
as I said its only a thought but if it worked it would be so COOL (excuse the pun) and could be used like nitrous only when you need an extra kick
I dont know enough about the MINI AC system to know if this is shooting in the dark or maybe possible and worth doing
let me know what you think

that idea surfaced for the Mini a couple of years ago on tone of the forums and the wags dissed it, assuming a net loss due to the extra drag to run the AC compressor.
I think the idea has merit for certain applications (keeping the intake cool during staging burnouts at the drags, for example)

I think the SVT Lightning truck has the ability to route A/C air to the intake for a short amount of time. The problem is, as jim said, the A/C is so much of a drag on the engine that it's just better to run without it.
