????

Where did you hear that the late '04s had lower gears? My June '04 build is NOT geared the same as an '05.

What dealer gives a limited production MC40 as a loaner.
I got one at Crown MINI in Richmond. I had it for just over 24 hours, and I think I put about 250 miles on it.

The dealer told me that since they were such slow movers (sales-wise), they use them for loaners. It's a great ploy, too: I wanted to trade mine in and keep it. Probably would have, too, but the MC40 is severely lacking in amenities, and not factory-customizable.

SOME MC40's have the JCW kit - it's up to the dealer. THe JCW IS NOT (I repeat, IS NOT) part of the MC40 package. There was a JCW/MC40 at my local dealer - I think they wanted $35k for it. THat's $7k for the MC40 (a bunch of stickers) and $6k for the JCW.

But again, the MC40 package is a bunch of stickers and different seats. It does not automatically have the JCW kit.

The MC40 loaner came from Prestige Mini in Mahwah, NJ. It came as a suprise to me too that they were using this car as a loaner.
No surprise to me. They're the one that wanted $35k for the MC40/JCW combo.

You missed by one month ... the gear ratio changes were effective with July 2004 builds.

what the MC40 really came with

This is taken directly from the Resume that came with the car.
"40th anniversary decal, replica bonnet decals, plaque engraved with Paddy Hopkirk's autograph, individually numbered Monte Carlo commemorative badge (only 1000 MC40 vehicles will be produced), gear **** with Monte Carlo inlay, 3 spoke steering wheel, driving lamps, carbon fiber dash,17 in. special wheels with run-flat tires, commemorative sport seats, xenon headlamps, chrome grille, magnetic racing numbers, auxiliary performance gauges"
So yes you are paying a premium for decals.
That was what couldn't be ordered on other cars... well kinda
Here is what you could order on another Cooper S (I'm only going to list the features that would come as options. The standard stuff like ac. wont be listed.)
DSC, "Sport Suspension PLUS"

It sounds like your car was built on a Friday afternoon before a big football match between the Brits and Brazil...and the loaner was built on a Wednesday morning.

Oh, plus do not dismiss the performance enhancing effects of go fast stickers!
