K&N air filter element 4 jcw airbox

I contact K&N to ask if the are planning to build an air filter element for the new jcw airbox. I offered to send my air filter as sample but they replied that they need a complete air box and the car so they can develop a proper filter element that works and seals just right. They are in california, I'm in new york. I'm not going to be able to make it there any time soon. Anybody here interested in talking to K&N and volunteer to have the filters made?

I actually live about 30 minutes drive from K&N. They used my 02 Jeep Liberty as one of the dyno mules to build their typhoon kit for the trucks. Thus, I'm very familiar with the way they work.

Anyway... I actually have a brand new JCW air box sitting in my garage waiting to be installed on my car. I'm not going to be using it for a while (as I want to put some break-in miles on my car first) and so I wouldn't mind letting them take a look at it if they wanted to comp me a couple of the K&N filters for it. Although, K&N has a pretty large budget and so I don't see why they just wouldn't purchase their own for $400 if they need/want one to test with.

K&N

Very cool, you are the man. As you know they need a test mule so it's not just a matter of spending $400 on a jcw airbox. As you said, they have plenty of money but they don't buy a car for each filter they develop. You'll brake your car in nicely and maybe then go by K&N when you are ready for a replacement filter element for your jcw airbox. From what I hear the price for the factory jcw filter element is ridiculous. How many brake in miles so far on your mcs? Good luck with it, I know you are loving life.

It actually just arrived on the dealer lot yesterday (it's a Jan built MCS with LSD). I'm going down to look at it today. I can't wait to see it! Needless to say, it might take me a while to get the break-in miles on it since it probably only has 10 miles or so on it right now.

Sweet, you are a happy popa. Big congratulations and many many years of luck and fun with it. I've driven my 03 mcs for 21 months and 36,000 miles. They start to feel loosened up at about 8,000 miles. I did 500 brake in miles by the book and then started running the rpm's just a touch higher but shortly. As I got further into brake in miles I increased to rpm's but always for a short time and never went to redline until 1250 miles. When I saw 1249 miles on the odometer I stared reducing my speed and gears to third. As soon as it turned 1250 it went straight to redline in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. After that I started giving it longer times at higher revs and often to redline. I always pump 93 octane fuel and the car is great now. Anyway, great luck with it.

Hey cooldaddy, thanks for the info. Where can I get one of those foam filters? By the way take a look at my gallery, our cars are twins.

Dkstone, so good to hear from you. I'll be taking a drive to the beach tomorrow morning 2/5. See some minis and hot rods, hang out for an hour or so. I'll be there between 10:00 and 11:30, perhaps I'll see you there. I'm sure you have some good track stories to tell and some new goodies that I didn't see yet. Come out! I just got the jcw suspension installed, nothing like your pss9 but I'm happy. Later.

cooldaddy, I think your car looks better than mine. I've been thinking about the checker flag mirror caps for over a year, now I have to keep my white ones so our cars don't become identical twins. Sweet looking wheels. Thanks for the link.

What is the length, outside diameter, and size of the flange for the stock JCW filter?

I find it hard to believe that one could not find an appropriate filter in their K&N Universal Series...

Seems like the JCW airbox might actually be worth the complexity if the paper filter were replaced by something less restrictive. I don't personally favor foam filters, as they seem to pass a lot more fine grit than the K&N's.

New Mini-Madness K&N-type filter for JCW

Mini-Madness now offers a nice cleanable velocity stack filter for the JCW airbox.

The part number for the filter is at the end of page 1.

If you are still looking for a better filter over the factory installed paper filter, this is the one to have:
