Urgent!!! Alta ssk

Putting on my alta ssk but the linkage seems a bit long so I won't able to put the cover on? Did I missed something here?

If it's the shift rod your speaking of, then this is the deal

The Alta is an adjustable hight shifter as you know. When it's adusted in the lower positions, around the center line up, it will hit the cover. Just leave the cover off. Most that install the Alta, including myself, left it off and have seen absolutly no problems with doing so.
I've had my shifter so low (testing) that it's hit the heat shield.

Yeah, just leave the cover off. Mine had more dirt inside it than outside it!

Other Tactics

I installed mine at the least radical position. All that was required was that I cut out a couple of the ribs on the inside of the plastic cover. This went well and the cover fits back on. The shift pattern is still tighter than the stock configuration and with a smaller **** feels light and "clicky."

Put a Whalen on the B&M

I've got the same setup. Get a Wahlen shift ****. Makes the pop into reverse a whole lot easier.

I have the Alta Short Shift with a Whalen **** on it and it is great. I had Whalen make me on that screws right on without an adapter. I left my short shift high enough I could put the cover back on it and it is short enought for me.

I also put a Whalen on an Alta SS and it made all the difference. I thought it was too much effort to get it in some gears before the Whalen. The alta **** was just too lite. The Whalen ***** are perfect.

the thought of a metal shift **** in light of the single digit temperatures we have been experiencing here in the northeast for the last week leaves me cold(pun intended )The thought of spending $125 for the priviledge of freezing my right hand off really isn't all that appealing. The stock shift **** is cold enough ,thank you very much .I can dig what you are trying to tell me about the benefits of a heavier **** , but I think I'll just limp along until I can manage to make the move to California, which I am attempting to put together in the next 8-9 months.I've been looking longingly at the houseboats in Sausalito! Heavy **** / all the difference

A heavy ****, in my case a stainless steel UUC, made all the difference! It also helps if you SLAP the shift to the left when you shift into reverse. As for the cold "just throw a sock on it".

The new car is due 1st week of FEB, I'll miss the B&M short shifter. Any more word on a B&M for 2005's. I guess I could switch to an ALTA.

Holdenontoit,

Yea, its the Alta **** that makes it harder. Alta now has an adaptor (threaded insert) to let you use the factory **** or the Whalen ****. The extra mass of either makes the difference in effort. In my case, with factory **** back on the linkage "feels right". Give Randy a call, he can get one to you!

With the low temps here in the East, you definitely don't want to lick your Alta ****.... just sitting here admiring the dog's abilities - never mind.

Cheers,
