Drivetrain R56S Stock Clutch Strength?
R56S Stock Clutch Strength?
Hi, I have a 2013 R56S with 88k miles and am thinking about doing a stage 1 or stage 2 tune by Mario or Lou @ Prototype-R. I was wondering if the stock clutch in these cars will handle that power with my mileage.

All depends on how you drive, and how you’ve treated the clutch so far. Have you had the car from new, or from very low miles? If you haven’t beat on the clutch up to this point, it ‘could’ be fine. I had 130k miles on my stock clutch, with 90k miles running stage 2 tune, when I pulled the transmission for a clutch upgrade. My stock clutch plate still had plenty of meat left in it, and it never slipped when running the higher power of the stage tune. I had other issues that facilitated the clutch swap, but the stock clutch didn’t really look that bad when removed.
I would go ahead with the tune, but leave money on the table for a clutch job in the near future. As long as you’re not doing clutch dumps and hard launches, it should last long enough.
@Lou@Prototype-R will do an awesome job recalibrating your ECU.
