So what's the deal with CAT downpipes?

It's time to renew the turbo on my 2013 JCW. I'm planning to send it to G-Pop.

Various vendors say that you "need" to replace/refurbish the cat downpipe when you renew the turbo, or risk excess downpressure/ turbo damage.

I never heard of "refurbishing" a CAT. Does anyone on here have experience with this?

I had figured that I would just get a "high flow" CAT downpipe. My issue - I don't want a CEL. It seems that all the downpipe vendors warn about a CEL and you need a "tune" to make it go away.

This is my daily driver - I'm not looking to hotrod it, but "easy" performance improvements are always welcome. Can anyone recommend a high flow downpipe that won't set a CEL?

Thanks!

Sadly, all of the high flow downpipes seem to throw a CEL Even with the bung extenders. It might not be in your future yet, but a few performance parts and a tune really do make the cars drivability awesome. It will delete any CEL as well. My car has had a stage two on it for about 30,000 miles. Not one single hicup. And the car is very manageable for daily driving. And very reliable.
That being said, I understand the hesitations.
