That's just what they say. If you still have the warranty and info packet from your pulley, it will say "for off road use only." At least my ALTA 19% does

Looks shiny. $1,099.00 plus shipping, with a cat? That's right up there with Supersprint pricing. I'd like to see some before and after dynos.

Why in the world would they do that? You can't even see the darned thing when it's installed unless your supposed to just hang it on the wall and look at it.
Do you think that possibly that polished bling appeal factor ate-up that $400 dollar off coupon.

Price to power ratio is waaay too low for something that costs soooo much.

I will always be the first to support site sponsors but some of these parts are just out of the ballpark when it comes to pricing.......

Unless its lined with gold or purely made of titanium i don't understand how a header for a sport compact can cost nearly $1000......

Even the most expensive well made race header for the Focus only cost $475 & that includes the flex pipe! I can imagine there's also no difference in quality from the focussport unit and the unit in this thread.

http://www.focussport.com/headers.htm

Ohh and noone try to pull the Ford versus MINI/BMW thing, their both small compact cars with 4 cyl engines.

I imagine that the brunt of the cost is the cat. These things are so feaking expensive.
I agree though that these headers are a bit much. I would guess that the amount sold vs the cost of everything involved to bring it to market is a huge reason also

True cats are expensive, but i bet even if a catless system was offered it would still probably be well over $600.....

That oil cooler looks great!

Any oil pressure deltas running stock compared to the new unit on the track?

I also like the addition of two tap points for oil pressure and temp.

It appears that the cooler mounts upfront, given the language that it mounts above for those who have their water/air IC unit. It would be nice to see one installed...

By how much does this increase oil capacity? And are there any concerns of oil being too cool? It seems that ambient air is being used to cool the oil, as opposed to the "hot anitfreeze" we currently use with the stock unit. I would tend to think that oil that is too cool is not ideal...

Pegasus Racing sells oil thermostats for that exact reason.

Maybe the Madness one employs such a thermostat, but it's not mentioned... I sort of like the idea of using the coolant still, but maybe just a larger exchanger. If anyone gets one, and installs it, please do share! The photo also does not show what type of plumbing is being used. I recall this being a topic of discussion before...

all you would have to do is install the Pegasus thermostat/Tee unit in the lines coming out of the manifold block. when the oil is below a set temp (185 or so) the cooler radiator is bypassed. they come with a variety of fitting options, including AN.

No way would I run without one for street use.

One would think for 700 bucks another purchase wouldn't be needed though... With Winter starting next week, no rush on my part

you can get an aluminum -10 AN fitting oil cooler radiator for $125 and the thermostatic valve for $95 from Pegasusautoracing.com. that leaves a lot of cash for hoses and the manifold block
maybe I'll make a block...

jlm, with your edit above, if you do so, I think you would have at least a fair amount of interest. Keep us posted if you do...

i just got back from portland and i must say the new header is sick in person, yea the polished is a little much, but i think that is awesome looking, a lot of things now are polished for cars, mainly exhaust systems, maybe something to do with cooling??? who knows. as for dyno, the header just got out so i dont know how long it will take for george to get thing dyno'ed.
also when i was down there i got to ride in his twin chargered mini, MY GOD THAT CAR IS F'ING FAST. even with the diff it rips the tires loose. INSANE, worst the money. he is at 25psi right now with the stock supercharger pulley.

i completely agree that the header is one of the most overpriced units on any mini

yet everyone must understand there are 2 things in play for all mini headers, first is demand, this is not a honda civic, even with the large mini tuner community, the number is miniscule to the number of civic owners who tune their car.. cost vs. demand, if there is great demand for the system then the price would drop... can you see yourself buying a 30,000 dollars solar panel if no one goes pioneer and buys it first? how about if a good number of people saw the advantage and just went for it out of a 'want' or desire? the price would always drop if there is great demand

2, unlike many other sport compacts, the mini tuner seems to consist of more small firms than big firms making parts for it, you get a much more focused group at making individual parts, these companies are out to make a profit too, but unlike other cars with their tuner companies, many of the good mini tuners like webbmotorsport, minimadness, alta, etc. all sells and develop parts only for the mini... stillen thrives on building parts for nissan, yet they also sell parts for hondas... you guys get my logic?

i dont see madness selling many of these.. i'd love to see the dyno of before and after, sound, as well as a formal comparo of miltek against this unit

kyriian,
then how do you explain the prices of swaybars for the MINIs? they are about the same price as for most any other sport compact out there, shouldn't the same logic be applicable?

hm.... i guess sway bar is a much more popular part and i guess cheaper to produce as well... as well there is a market demand for it.. just about everyone nowadays recommend a sway bar as either first mod or only mod

header on the other hand does not have a big market... i forgot where on nam i read it but someone said that there is little gains in headers and making light appear and so most people just run the oem one without problems... tops miltek makes 8 hp at the peak, and for 800 bucks i'd rather pay for a intercooler, second, most people are more subjective when it comes to making their car louder... finally, the header's process of making as well as the metallic cat requires more money than making a sway bar....

maybe this is just me
