Now that some of you have had your Air Intakes installed and had a chance to try them out, what's the opinion. What's best?

I love my BMP intake. I like that it isn't a sealed box, like the Rogue. I understand why Rogue made theirs that way, but I was looking for more air, not cooler.

It's going to be hard to use any feedback to decide what is the "best" from owner reaction, since almost no one has tried BOTH the Rogue/MINI Madness and the BMP.

That said, I'm quite happy with my MINI Madness intake. I now have 8000 miles on it and I would definitely buy it again.

I'm just looking for real user comments, not the company hype.

Why you choose the one you have and actual performance differences before and after.

I have been battling w/ this intake question myself for ....let's call it 3 months now....

Here's my humble opinion...

It DEFINITELY sounds incredible....w/ any of the intake systems out there...

It MIGHT increase HP.....

Here's my particular situation....
My local dealer..... Hassell Mini is ....EXCELLENT!!!!!!...
They have addressed each & every issue in a timely manner & have gone the extra mile to make sure that all problems are....corrected.
I can not say enough about these people. They are..TERRIFFIC!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's the rub....
Aftermarket additions... which include: air intake, exhaust system & /or chipping will DEFINITELY...cause me warrantee...problems.

NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!

Whether or not I will be able to win these warrantee battles...in the long run... is still not yet decided, as I have not been down that road yet.
I do know definitively that I will loose the battle in the initial phase.
The questions are really....
Do I really want to ...test the waters and go for it? Or be cautious?
And
Is all this extra after market stuff worth this effort???? And worth putting me in an adversarial relationship w/ my dealer?

IMHO opinion....NOW.... it is not

Later ....when BMW ..comes to its senses and realizes that ... all this extra aftermarket stuff will add to their revenue stream....
Then...I'll be 1st online to ...get each and every "bell & whistle" that is out there

My MCS runs like a rocket
It has its good days & bad days...as we all do

I say..." if it ain't broke...don't fix it "

Peace,
D

I brought my mini to Hassel to try them out for the coolant tank exchange. My car had the rogue intake and exhaust, water temp, boost and oil pressure gauges and replacement headunit (plus a thing or two that was not visible) they didn't bat an eye.

I have the Rouge Intake, so far no problems after 4000 miles.
The horse power increase is noticeable, and the sound of the Supercharger is great.
You have to remember that our minis ECU is self programable, and that is why the car will adapt to the new enviroment, and it will gain more if you beat it up a little.... OK A LOT!...

Ahhh, so you're the one When I went in for the cold start fix, the service advisor mentioned all the mods you had done when I asked him their policy on aftermarket equipment. They don't approve of it, but there is nothing a dealer can do to deny you warranty coverage, if they can't prove your modifications were the reason for the failure of the covered part.

Self programmable? Please eloborate. It was my understanding that the Seimens setup was a speed density fuel management system. It uses a MAP sensor to measure vacuum/boost and thus calculates the load based on that and other parameters.
BTW, there is not a factory fuel injections system out there that will "learn" under WOT conditions. What people consider "learning" occurs during part throttle operation (usually below 75% throttle application), where the computer uses a closed loop feedback system to keep the Air Fuel ratio at 14.7/1. This ratio is ideal for emmissions, but is too lean for Wide Open throttle power requirements. Normally what happens at WOT, is your computer goes into "open loop" where it ignores the oxygen sensor, and derives its fueling and ignition values from a set of tables that are preprogrammed into the chip.
At least that is my experience. I have limited data on the ECM strategies employed by MINI, but would love to learn more about their specific setup. If you have any information regarding this please holler as I am very interested.

How is it that these threads get superseded by threads about essentially the exact same thing? Is there a way for thread to be combined? (e.g. all intake issues on one thread?)
