Has anyone installed the Borla system on the S yet? I am interested in doing it, but I'd like to hear any feedback from a guinea pig first

Any input from anyone with other brands of exaust for the S would be appreciated as well. I know of the SuperSprint system, the Rogue system, and the Borla.

I don't really like the Rogue because of the departure from the central rear outlet.

I wouldn't mind the SuperSprint, but I'm familiar with Borla quality - that's why I was leaning that way.

Any suggestions?

I really like the idea of the borla but the only drawback is 49 lbs compared to the 35 lb stock setup....

One other option that I would recommend is talking to Bob Tunnel at Bimmerhaus. Bob is famous for coming up with lightweight, good flow, good sounding exhaust setups and has an enormous amount of autocross/competition knowledge to leverage (not to mention he and his wife share more than 15 SCCA national championships in Solo 2 and Pro Solo). He can be reached at:

www.bimmerhaus.com
BobTunnell@aol.com
866.327.4287 or 720.566.0521 in Colorado

If you speak to Bob let him know that I recommended that you speak with him

Mark

I saw & heard an MCS with the Borla system two weeks ago...

Performance may be good, but the sound definitely had a whine to it compared to the stock MINI exhaust (and also couldn't compare to the deep throaty sound of the Rogue exhaust that I have on my MC).

I can definitely recommend the Rogue system for the MC, and the one they offer for the MCS is probably excellent as well.

My Borla system has been on for a week and a half, I love it. Sounds good, not too loud. Initially its kind of quiet, but it gets louder after its been on the car for a few days. I would like to know where the weight info came from. I do not have any exact numbers, but the stock system seemed quite a bit heavier than the Borla system. Fit and finish are great, easy to install.

I just recentley 2 days ago to be exact, installed a borala cat back
system on my mc . I had insalled a super sprint system prior to this .HAd
it on about 6 wks , fit wasent what it should have been. And sound was a bit ragged.
Borala fits perfect, soud is nice & will improve with run in. I realy dont know about
the 49 LBS didnt seem any heavier than the stock sys.
As far as the rouge 25LBS sounds like it may not be a full cat back set up?
possibley muffler onley. And if it is whole sys. must not be all stainless at 25 LBS

the Rogue I just put in is cat back: it consists of a flange-resonator-to-Y, and two mufflers with two 3" tips; all 2-1/4" stainless tubing and polished stainless mufflers and resonator. i weighed it all at 25 lbs; i also weighed the removed stock system at 35 lbs. the stock system also has 2-1/4" tubing all the way to the second muffler, at which point, two 1-1/2" tubes branch out to give the twin pipes. the tips are dummy 2-1/2" sleeves over the 1-1/2" actual pipes

I'd gladly put the Rogue on, but I like the central rear outlet. I'm going to call Borla tomorrow and find out how much it weighs.

Borla said the weight they list for shipping info is 49lb. That includes a "heavy guage" cardboard box and the shipping materials. I would guess that, like most places, they are a little on the heavy side with this estimate so they don't get stuck with any shipping costs. It's still probably heavier than the stock system, but I'd say only by a few pounds - and it's not unsprung weight. They also said they have gotten ten to fifteen HP increases with the system, depending on the other mods done. I am leary of that without dyno sheets, but even 6 - 8 would be great!

You just want lead in my car so you can pass me at the next event!
What was it 3 or 4 tenths? I'd say an extra 14 lbs may do the trick.

I talked to him on the phone about an exhaust for the S. He said they have nothing developed for the MINI right now, but may start in the future. It sounded to me like he has enough going on with the Bimmers, and the MINI is on the backburner.

Installed my Borla cat back system today. Took about an hour. Perfect fit, great sound. Kudos to the folks at Turner Motorsport for the recommendation. I am very happy. Quality is on par with the Supersprint system on my 328iC.

Dave,

It's supposed to be here on monday, but I may be flying. I'm off on the 11th, so I plan to do it then. Let me know if you want to be a part of the install team.
