there is mucho info on the old one's forum; all you have to do is register at:
http://www.theoldone.com/forum/
if you go there, take the time to read his "How to build a 2 liter normally aspirated engine" great insights and photos, not to mention he is getting 280whp out of it.
the mini thread has over 14,000 reads and some great photos.
the latest is TOO has the rods; the final version of the piston has been approved (after six versions, I heard). In about a month, the final production pistons will be back and it will be assembly time.
this is a guy who has had many, many of his custom Rollerwave pistons made by Wiseco, so if he felt like it took several attempts to get the bottom surface of the combution chamber right, he is the man. I'm just the monkey.

a recent bit of enlightened point of view from TOO:

"The Mini owners seem to have a better grasp of what's happening under the hood than most Honda owners. They also have access to a lot of heads, blowers, etc due to the parts left over from enthusiasts who've opted for the installation of the John Cooper kits.
Having good parts available at affordable prices makes a huge difference, especially since you can sent those pieces to be reworked while you're driving the car.
I think that there's going to be a lot happening in the Mini world, with all sorts of goodies becoming available over the next few years. There was even discussion between the dyno runs at the shop Saturday about the possibility of a turbo kit, larger blowers, etc.
The nice thing about the Mini is that it has an iron block, and it's not a high-reving engine, so if you build it like a Honda, it'll last forever....

Good to hear John!
While I know that a few have speculated that the tuning future of our 1.6's was in jeopardy due to the new, bigger and lighter (and not as stout) MINI powerplant that is supposedly a couple years out... others have shared with me that when it's all said and done, our little guy will be the most desirable, in a mod-friendly sense. I'm starting agree more and more with that .
It's fantastic to have TOO so engaged. With the upside looking good, something tells me that we will lure some heavy-hitters who will want a piece of this action. We shall see...
