OBDII Software/Cable help
I just got my sensolutions ISO 9141 cable in today and I download some free OBDII scanning software (http://www.obd-2.com/#download and http://obddiagnostics.com/ProgWin.html ) but neither of them are working. I read the readme's and followed the correct conneting procedures (computer off, connect serial end, turn on computer, connect obdII end, turn on car, open software). I think Andy@Ross-tech used the first software I listed and it worked for him but I don't know what cable he used. I think i had it set to com 1 (how do I double check, I looked in the device manager and my modem is on com 3, com 1 is empty to my knowledge). Any help is much appreaciated. By the way, I am getting MTH-cartune software too.

Sometimes laptops use com1 for the mouse pad. Not being sure that you have the right cable can make this very tricky. You might want to find some port sensing software on the net and let it check which com# your external serial port is running. Check the configuration of your ports. I run 9600,8,N,1 - hardware - for mine running odb-2.
Try every port possible within the odb software.
Try it on another computer where you know that the port works.
Good Luck!

I just downloaded my ecu map today with my laptop and cable using MTH-cartune. So the cable and computer and port are not directly at fault (i had it on com 1 and it works). I read the help file and the free software said that it needs pin 7 of the OBDII and my cable does not have that so I am guess that it will never work with the free software.
