1st to 2nd wheel spin

When under heavy acceleration going from 1st to 2nd, sometime (not all the time) I experience wheel spin. I have only experienced this a few times.

Stupid Question:
Does this hurt the clutch and tranny?
And what would be the tell-tail signs?

I have 3k on my MCS and want to make sure it stays intact.
It's just so fun to drive and that is like an added bonus...

I know it's silly but hey...

I never get wheel spin. Doesn't matter what gear.
Wheel spin might look impressive but it just means you have no traction for the moment on your drive wheels. No traction translates to no motion.

You can practice getting smooth launches from a stop by easing on the throttle just enough but not to the point of wheel spin and letting out the clutch at the right speed to avoid bogging down. Just takes practice.

Having a limited slip differential might help allow better front wheel traction. Turn off DSC if you have it when you practice your launches.

Your wheel spin hurts your tires alot but not your clutch or tranny if you do it smoothly.

Sometimes wheel spin is dependent on if the tire is loosing traction due to road conditions (slick oil, gravel) or if the rubber (too firm, not sticky and soft) is not up to the task. Or maybe you are just up in the high rpms and catching some air.

I can get wheel spin in my Maxima with street tires but they are hardly the performance wheels I have on my MCS. The Maxima has plenty of torque and power so no big deal with a bit more noise from the wheels.

I have got rubber in third once or twice but only on subpar road surfaces.

I did it tonight on the way home - perfectly normal asphalt, me and the wife in the car, shift at ~6500. I've got 2250 miles on the car.

its called power.MCS's are torque monsters. if you think that is bad spinning tire get a madness intake, madness 19% reduction pulley and a borla exhaust. i can spin tire in 3rd.

Wheel spin isn't the end of the world. Sometimes it's the best way to go! I notice that some cars sort of bog down at shifts because the tires grip and the RPMs go down. If you can break the tires loose a little on your shift you can keep your RPMs up, and the wheels will connect pretty quickly anyway.

*Burnouts don't hurt the tranny/clutch as much as NOT doing burnouts with same power being output from engine. Better to burn rubber than burn clutch.

*Tell tale signs are a dramatically increased tire budget

burnouts do hurt the diff and tranny.....not so much shifting gears but dumbing the clutch in 1st. not good. specially later on done the road and if you do it alot. george at MM got a tranny from a mcs that a guy dumbed the clutch in 1st a lot and blow the diff creating a hole in the bell housing. yea is better to have a good enough power to wheel spin out of gears and yea it better that the tire spin instead on the clutch or blowing the diff. but burnouts are a no no for me. as well as wheel hopping. personally i love the feeling of wheel spin on WOT in 1st. 19% all the way.
