My friend and were talking about different locations for gauges about a year ago and we came up with this idea. But the gauges would have to be thin to fit in the oem visor. So after searching off and on for a few months I found these which are less than 1 inch deep. So for about two months I drove around with my visor down with two circles taped to it to see if it would work while driving. I removed the vanity mirror housing and the gauge fit perfectly in the circles on either side ( I had to dremel out about 1-2mm for a perfect fit. there are also ledges on the bottom which I removed other than that the outer edge seats perfectly epth wise) I made a foam core to go between the gauges to fill in the hole. Then i covered the whole thing with fiber glass. ( the fiber glass didn't stick to the visor only the hole) which led me to just use the fiber glass resin to coat the whole underside which slightly warped the vinyl underneath. I found spray paint that almost matched the color. I made a small incision in the roof liner and passed the wires underneath the "A" Pillar then pushd the wires around the door seal. Things I would do different When I buy Oil temp gauge I will also buy another visor (only about $30 from classic) I will recess the top of the gauges more so they face upright more. And I will probably do something else for the finish. Any other questions or hints just ask I'll do what I can.
works really well, but not quite the look i'm going for. i want one that doesnt have a big box around it, so no LCD that requires a backlight...and i want it to display more than one thing at a time. i'll try and draw (very crudely) a diagram of what i'm aiming for.
