Hey guys I'm about to venture into the auto to manual swap from my 05 cooper s auto. Now, I have a spare complete donor 06 cooper s manual that's hit from behind. The only question I have is what do you guys do with the auto wiring by the shifter? Do you just bypass it to think it's in neutral and that's it? Then wire up reverse and program the dme into a manual? Thanks.

 

I've never done a auto to manual swap but I wanted to reply to hopefully help you not give up hope in getting a reply to your question in the future. I know how this forum thing works sometimes where you get answer's instantly or wait a log time lol. Join Facebook mini cooper r53s groups dedicated to whatever you're trt8jg to accomplish to find real answer's for another. One of the few reasons I use Facebook besides marketplace.

I’ve been following this R53 transmission conversion thread and it’s great, really detailed work and helpful to see how the ECU and wiring challenges were handled.

I’m in the early stages of planning a project to retrofit a new 2019 F60 manual transmission into a 2023 MINI Countryman JCW (F60). Since the JCW hasn’t been offered with a manual since 2020, I’m trying to see whether the current DME/BDC setup (MG1CS003 with BDC_BODY) can be reprogrammed or adapted to function properly with the manual gearbox once installed.

If anyone has experience with F-series conversions or knows a mechanic and coder familiar with these systems (and willing to take on this challenge) I’d really appreciate any recommendations or guidance.
