There's obviously going to be some parts missing on an automatic that are needed on a manual (linkage, clutch pedal, clutch hydraulics etc) And I believe you need to add/fill in some holes in the block that were there for mounting the tranny to the block.

There are a number of "old timers" over there that have probably done it already.
before you do this you should let us see which automatic model it is, because the automatics are pretty hard to come by, and some can be worth a good bit more then a stick shift.
I haven't bought it yet, but was just thinking what it would entail and didn't know the cost factor / trouble... I'm new to all this and have really gotten bitten by the Classic bug... big time!

Even here in the UK Mini Autos are now very rare, they are a unique, complex but special part of the classic Mini's history, so if at all possible buy a manual rather than convert but if you must, try to find a good home for the auto engine & transmission as a complete unit.
