Been in contact with RaceChip, they have a successor to the Ultimate, called the GTS Black.
Trying to get info about their experience with blowoff dumping.
Looks like Mother Nature didn't want to wait until Saturday. Darn pesky global warming!
82 degrees and sunny here on the southern Left Coast. A little breezy, and, yeah, the place is, literally, on fire. But no need for snow tires in our forecast. Everything's a tradeoff.

And side mirrors not folded. Minus 3.5 Karma points.
As we all know, when folded, the mirrors tilt upward as well as inward, catching as much water/snow as possible.
I intend to continue auto-folding my mirrors until the motors fail and/or they short out from water penetration. But then, no rain, no snow, alas, no water. Only folding mirrors.

So, you're not going to give Dinan another chance? You are the only one I've heard of with that problem. Sounds like a defective unit to me. The lack of negative comments/reviews is the only reason I pulled the trigger on mine.
The folding mirror block wasn't checked on my car. Never saw the need for it. Don't you worry about yours filling up with ash?
It is a major concern. The design that causes the mirrors to tilt upwards is, I assume, to allow enough rain water to collect in the works to wash out the ash. But, all we get these days is the ash, without the rain. And because the mirrors tilt upward, the Santa Ana winds don't blow the ash out either -- would have thought they'd get the tilt angle correct for a proper venturi effect. But no.
The best part is if I wash the car with the mirrors folded but forget to bring my key fob out from the house. I wash the car, go in and have my coffee, come back to my nice shiny car, unlock it, which causes my mirrors to auto unfold, and I watch the streams of car wash water run down the driver and front passenger doors. It's become a hobby.
I've read quite a lot about RaceChip Ultimate on the BMW blogs. Mixed reviews. Many love them and claim the power gains throughout the power band are very good. Some report serious car issues which they attribute, without much documentation, to RaceChip.
Not much yet about the new generation of RaceChip, but it appears to have greater user adjustment capacity. And possible more refine algorithms in its programming.
I'm still stumped about Dinan. Really can't understand why PostSound got no satisfaction from their tech/customer service people. But he's zero for 2 with Dinan. His Sport caused his car to throw codes after a MINI software update (later attributed to a defective Dinan unit which Dinan replaced no questions asked) and then the driveability issue on acceleration and shifting with the Elite.
Yet Moocher's early reporting is all positive -- only complaint seemed to be the car had "almost too much power."
Hopefully, as different users log some more Elite miles we will see patterns, positive or negative.
FWIW, my Dinan Sport is still doin' it for me -- in fact, I think I'm getting better at finessing how I drive the Dinan, with more satisfying results. Or maybe it's just what I want to believe...
Vetsvette, you seem like someone it would be worth having a beer with. You probably have enough miles on your internal odometer to have gotten your mind right. Even if your mirrors don't auto fold.
Got in trouble the first time I drove into CA from the north. LEO searched my car, ignored the three rifles I had in the back, and confiscated a bag of apples. Something about fruit flies. Guess he didn't know flies could fly and didn't need to hitch a ride in a Mustang. 'Course this was in '79. I think the rifles would get me hard time at Terminal Island these days.
I never saw the need to have mine fold. I always had the mindset that un-needed movement on cars isn't my thing. I still wish I have manual windows and door locks. Less to go bad

Yeah, I remember reading about you and that incident. You cussed out the officer when he confiscated the apples and the officer said to your passenger, "Is he always this belligerent?" And your passenger famously replied, "Oh, no officer. He only gets like this when he's drunk!"
Judged State Championships for these guys for seven years. Judged contests in SC, NC, VA, PA, and NJ. Really enjoyed it, but when my buddy and I started catering BBQ I had to give it up. Better to make money on a weekend than eat free BBQ.
