I wanted to upgrade the Cooper S exhaust to something a little more throaty. I came across this Megan cat-back system on ECS Tunings website for a great price ($220 off) so I jumped on it. Showed up in a few days and it was more beautiful than expected. The polished stainless and welds are just awesome! Install was pretty straight forward, took about an hour and a half start to finish.
It sounds good but I was hoping for it to be a bit louder. My wife makes fun that she still can't hear me coming home from work. It's pretty quiet at idle and low RPMs, it does come to life at higher RPMs, just wanted a bit more. May have to remove the resonator. Anyhoo here are a few pics.
I too agree that looks pretty decent. Interesting that the inner hangers are provisioned for before and after 2004. Just wonder ECS price now is $660, which I assume is regular price.
I do have to modify the shield a bit before I reinstall it or it will rub. I also broke the left inner hanger so that why it's a tad crooked. 660.00 is original price. I think I got their last one because now it says drop ship and mine came from ECS.
Love me a good deal. Glad I was able to grab the last one.
I am so glad you guys also have Mini parts, I get a lot of my VW stuff from you and was excited to see all the Mini goodies.
In the last picture I do not see the shield under the battery box, did you take if off?
Brought the Mini in our shop today to put it up in the air and address an exhaust squeak. We fixed the broken hanger and then held the battery shield up to make a few adjustments so it wouldn’t hit the exhaust. No more squeak. I had to clean the aluminum shield up so it didn’t look so crappy next to that beautiful exhaust.
It certainly look nice after polishing it. Are you protecting the shinny surface with a clear coat? The most amazing attribute of aluminum is the metal's ability to resist oxidation - it forms an armor coating that is the dull surface that you removed.
