Hey guys new member here. I got a r53 a few months ago 2006 s hardtop manual with 150k and it needs a clutch. I'm going with the valeo conversion kit. I've been reading on here and found alot if helpfull information but I'm still missing a few bits on what all I need for this project. I'm also going to to be changing the supercharger oil while it's in service mode. Is there anything else I'll need for sure that's not included in the kit? (Flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate and all bolts) how do I know what trans oil to get? Ecs has mtf-lt3 and mtf-94. Also for the supercharger oil change should I get all the gaskets and replace them before reassembly or use the old ones? Throttle body gasket, water pump gasket and supercharger inlet and outlet gaskets am I forgetting any? Thanks guys
It's been a few years so my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I remember my '05 came from the factory with a single mass flywheel and it was changed to a dual mass due to a TSB for rattle At cold start or something like that. I had gotten the clutch pretty hot learning how to navigate the hills in the Seattle downtown area. The dealer had offered to replace the clutch while they were doing the work for "just the cost o parts".
Anyways the biggest adjustment that I remember from single to dual mass change, was that the clutch pedal felt much softer afterwards, even with a brand new OEM clutch.

They all came with a dual mass from the factory for the MCS, there was a dual mass flywheel update at one time to solve an issue with the rattle / chatter. But very few people I knew had this done. 21207548804 And then they came out with a newer Flyweel part number for the dual mass. So i think it was a short term fix.
ECS: Thanks for clearing that up some. Like I said, my memory of it is a bit fuzzy, but that rattle is exactly why I took it in. Well that and a dead PS Fan. I remember asking why the clutch pedal felt so "soft" with the new clutch and was told something about it being a dual mass flywheel. That was probably late Summer to early Fall 2007. I do remember the actual fix, but thought they replaced the flywheel.
I just readjusted to the lighter pedal feel and lived with it. I had driven the car from Houston to Seattle, so I think I had a good idea how the clutch felt. No one else that drove my car ever noticed or said anything, so I figured that it was mostly in my head.
Been considering the Valeo flywheel kit when I get around to fixing this R52 and installing the 6sp. Reviews seem to be hit or miss though. People either seem to love it or hate it.
Most people that have bought it from us like it, a couple people preferred the old Dual Mass clutch pedal feel, I like the R50 NON S / Valeo / DM to single mass feel.
