Before I have some more mods on top of my JCW, I want to know about the up coming up-grade kit. So..., has anyone known which part(s) of engine will get improvement this time ?
Thanks.

Software..

05' JCW "up-grade" is a software upgrade for 04' Works package.. Expect it to be a modest but decent gain of app. 9-11HP/6-9 lb torque. Cost? Best bets $400.

huh? This is the first I've heard of this...

I have an '02 MCS with the Works kit installed.... will this be something that I can get or only for '04 models?

upgrade for...

Upgrades are for all pre-05 Works cars! Do a search for more details or call you dealers service dept. (they may not know more than this right now.)
-Keep in mind there are over 5000 Works kits that will qualify for an upgrade (how many in the US?) so expect a lot on interest & dealer wait-lists.

If it's just a software upgrade, I don't see how there could be wait lists for it any worse than any other service visit would entail. They'd just plug it in to their gameboy and reflash the eprom, right?

And on that note, has anybody checked the viability of installing the Dinan software on a JCW MCS? It's a good bit cheaper than you estimate the JCW software to be.... might be worth testing out if someone has connections in a Dinan service department.

I was speaking with a friend of mine that works at a dealership. He told me that when he spoke with a rep from MINI USA, he was told it was a Computer Upgrade, and that it would take about an hour. But then again with JCW you never know, I heard this in July. So far nothing new.

Thanks for the info.

Then I guess if I had install the Dinan throttle body and later on have the JCW upgraded, that would be great hey ?

Cheers !

That answers a question. It certainly appears that the 05 MCS gets most (if not all) increases in power (163 to 170hp) through an ECU upgrade which they're apparently offering to JCW owners.

Which makes me wonder about the aftermarket ECU's. What is the affect of this upgrade and how will it affect the current ECU upgrades on our car. If our upgrade is making 7 or so hp, and Mini was able to get the same 7hp from the ECU and include it in the car, then the aftermarket units may become more worthless.

Than again, if this is an ECU upgrade, than all previous stock models, should be able to get the same increase.
