Saw a New Exhaust on Ebay 8-15-04

HPR HP Racing Mini Cooper-S Catback Exhaust SystemItem number: 7915926017

Anyone else see this exhaust. It's a straight exhaust w/ no bend. From the description, there are no battery box mod. The pics show the exhaust but not installed in the car. Will the straight exhaust give better performance vs the quicksilver, alta, dinan one muffler design. Also, is the straight design louder? I know Tony B did some custom exhaust but he had to relocate his battery to clear the exhaust.

A couple of guys have done this and each have removed or cut a tunnel through the battery box. I have been interested in this since I saw what TonyB did. I will have to crawl under the car and see if this is really feasible. I would want to drag it going into my driveway. May also look a little funky if it sits too low. I would prefer to see this one installed or at least in pictures before buying.

It looks like it'll sit way too low and will probably leave a gaping hole where the stock tips go. Overall, not a very well-thought-out design if in fact you do not need to cut the battery box.

looks nice, i'll admit.

i've emailed the seller and maybe he'll give us some more info.

i've request pics of the installed exhaust, performance numbers, and a sound clip.

we'll see if they're actually a "tuning company", or just another company that "tunes" by throwing crap together and hoping someone buys.

i figured any smart tuning co. would begin by introducing themselves on enthusiast forums, rather than just selling on ebay, but oh well.

Anyone with this straight exhaust please post pictures and comment on loudness and droning.

Looking at the rather wide 5" tip I wonder how that will fit into the standard opening and how low it will sit from the lower valence if the battery box is kept.

I wouldn't trust this exhaust any further than I could throw it! They note that it will also fit a non-S Cooper. Obviously they haven't crawled under a non-S to see the spare tire in the way, not to mention that the mounting brackets have nothing to mount to on the Cooper and the arrangement is completely different.

i contacted the seller "hyper tuning". They apparently dont "tune" mini's, as they didnt have pics, install notes, sound clips, anything. In fact, they havent even installed one as they dont have a mini.

However, they directed me to the maker of the product "HP racing", and i know that they do have a cooper as a show car. We'll see if the kit they've "developed" has actually been installed.
