Hey all, gonna try not to ramble too much and keep this simple.

I'm doing the clutch in my MCS in a few weeks and I'm looking at fluids. I work at a race shop and stock tons of Motul fluids.

When searching for the OEM fluid type, it seems lifetime OEM fluid is all I seem to get, and redline is all people mention using other than the stock. I'm trying to decide if Motul will be okay to use, or to see if there's any particular reason why people use only Redline or OE (yellow metal safe, etc).

Any help would be excellent, I'll save a lot of money paying our prices, and Motul is a much better product.

 

I see from earlier posts that you have a 2006 R52 Cooper S. I'm assuming it's without
the optional LSD.

The Motul site recommends their MotylGear 75W-80 for 2004-2006 non-LSD Cooper S
models, but it looks like that product is no longer in their line.
They list the lighter Multi ATF for 2004-2006 with LSD, and for all 2001 - 2004 Cooper S models.

This is a little strange, as Redline recommends their D6 (ATF) for late non-LSD,
and the heavier MTL 75W80 for LSD (and for earlier non-LSD), which is the opposite recommendation.

BTW - MTL is like oem Texaco MTF-94 and D6 is like oem BMW LT-3.
and Multi-ATF is pretty close to oem BMW LT-3 as well.

Google found me the data sheet for the MotuylGear 75W-80, and it looks pretty close to MTF-94 and MTL 75W80.

Motylgear 75W90 is a lot thicker.

 

Correct, 06 R52 S W/ JCW tuning kit. No LSD though.

Not sure why I didn't think to check their site. We stock damn near the full line of Motul products (even their details....this stuff is nice!) so I'm surprised we don't have it. Seems like you can still get it from a few places, lists Amazon for $6.21 for 1L bottles, that's HALF the price of Summit! Wonder if I can get my vendor to find me some.

I may just run to Summit and pick some MTL up, it may not be worth my time to find the Motul.

 

If you have a factory built JCW R52 then it has the LSD as the factory JCW cars came with LSD, but the dealer installed kits didn't.

We sell the Motul Motylgear oil, but it isn't for LSD cars.

We've used the Redline for years with great luck so I've never seen a reason to change.
