Drivetrain Mods and maps
Mods and maps
So lets say you mod you car a little, (pulley/air box/exhaust) and get an ecu remap (in my case WEbb Powerchip ecu) but then you mod your car more...how does that affect the program you are using?
Also, is it dangerous to run this software (made for 15%) with a 19%?
I'm strongly considering changing to the 19%, but want to know if I should go get V38 flashed then do it, or do it, then drive around then go get V38 (don't want to run lean)
Thanks,
L

The remap is indeed specific to the modification combination. If you are changing a lot, check out www.MTH-cartune.de or maybe it is www.MTH-Powerchip.de I don't remember which now. It cost 59 Euros and when you change, he can make you a new file and email it to you for upload.
See $200 Cartune from Deutschland thread to learn more.
It probably sounds like I'm an agent for MTH. I'm not, I'm merely a very satisfied customer.

It depends how aggressive of a map it is currently and how high of an octane
fuel you are planning to run with it.
If I were you, I would get it remapped or get it dyno tuned based
on your 19% pulley. I think if you would have left the ECU stock,
you may have been able to use the 19% as is.

The problem I am having is that the car is at the shop right now with the head off, so it would be even easier to get the 19% on, but then I would have to go to the dealership, get the car flashed (I'm not sure how long of a prosedure, or if they have the time to do it) so it means I'd be driving around with the 19 and the Powership geared for the 15 (I've heard that it could be dangerous.
I've identified a place in Houston that sells the Apexi fuel managemtn systems and that dyno tune http://www.sgpracing.com
so I plan on doing that, but I don't want to endanger myself or the car while waiting for that.

Sounds like a good idea. Im looking into the Apexi fuel controllers myself.
If you ever find out the pinouts for the ECU, please let me know. I need to
find out which wires to tap into.

Samawill,
If you have the 15% pulley and Powerchip ECU and you are adding a ported and polished cylinder head with larger valves or schrick cam then you don't really need a 19% pulley upgrade.
One- the 15% pulley and Powerchip is a good combo and more reliable in terms of engine wear and tear than a 19% pulley.
Two- if you add the 19% pulley the Powerchip ECU mod is not optimized for the 19% pulley and would not offer much if any benefit from added power. You could run the MCS with the stock V.38 ECU update and it would work about the same. This negates any benefit from the Powerchip. You could contact Randy Webb and ask him if there are any aggressive maps for Powerchip that are tuned for your set of upgrades. Sounds like you added quite a bit beyond 15% pulley intake and exhaust.
Three- If you do get the 19% pulley you will not do anything bad having the Powerchip ECU map in the car. Your MCS will function fine but just don't expect any real gains from the Powerchip in addition to gains you may get from upgrading from a 15% to a 19% pulley. In general your MINI will tend to run rich and only gets into lean when you get to high rpms near redline. Running lean at that point with the 19% pulley is not recommended and not going to help performance anyway so just be careful as rpms go up. You can safely go to about 6500. The holds for either the Powerchip ECU or for the stock V.38 software. Neither is optimized for the 19% pulley so it doesn't really matter for rich vs lean.
Four- if you get the 19% pulley don't forget the smaller belt.

I'll probablty end up staying with the 15 for a while, then eventually get the 19...this way I can see what the head did as compared to before, and then get a good idea about the 19...but I'm thinking it's more and more important that I get that stand alone fuel maanagement system so as to get the most of it...
