Tune - East coast

Here is my setup:
-Mini Cooper S 2004
-Cold air intake
-15% reduction supercharger pulley
-One grade cooler plugs
-Detroit Tuned Bypass Valve

It is a small setup I enjoy. I decided to buy the JCW 380cc injectors.
The injectors are not installed yet on the car. I was planning on installing them whenever I have time.

Question 1:
-Can I install the 380cc injectors whenever or should I install them just before going for a tune? Some mechanics told me I would ruin my engine if I install them without a tune, some other said it makes no difference.
Question 2:
-Any tuners with a dyno on the east coast for Minis? I remember exchanging emails with someone, can't find the emails. Search the threads and darn it can't find what I'm looking for. There was somebody around here with a good reputation specialised with Minis…
Question 3:
-I called a couple of places (they never worked on Minis) and they want to charge me software + time + + + + +. I thought a tune was a reprogramming of my current ECU adapted to my hardware change and customized to my car by running it on dyno, I didn't think I had to buy software and stuff... Can someone clarify this for me? I’m not planning on doing any other modification to the car, so I don’t need something to change the settings every now and then.

See the previous thread "tuners in connecticut" for thoughts on custom tuning on the east coast.

I am not sure if it is safe or not to run JCW 380s on in an MCS with stock ECU calibration (hopefully other with more injector experience will comment). You can go to a MINI dealership and get them to load the JCW calibration into your ECU (to go with your 380s).

You can run the JCW injectors with the stock tune no problem at all. The JCW injectors will make it richer so no concern of being lean.

We offer custom dyno tuning at our shop in Atlanta. Otherwise we offer our quicktune service in which you ship your ECU to us.

George at PAW in Miami is a real tuner, who knows his art, he doesn't try to make meaningless peak bumpers to give the illusion of fast, he tunes to give your car fast transient response and put the power where it's used not a beyond redline carnival game. He truly custom tunes, which means he spends a few hours tuning, which the top tier pro race tuners do. If you get a tune in 20 minutes on a Dyno you got a canned tuned charged as a custom, that's also a red flag the tuner is just trying to make a big number not make you fast. HP is a very menial variable when making speed, it takes tuning to the shift band and creating a quick transient response, allowing the car to quickly I've through gears. If you got a tune that set a peak past redline, then you got bamboozled. I believe Geirge might do remote tunes through Bytetronik
But honestly he's the only one I trust, every other mini tuner I know of took a day course and just throws the same time on everything and just wants a number to make you happy, George does it like a pro race tuner does, and those guys could care less about peak HP, it not power that makes you fast, it's how quick you reach it. I'm not going to say anything about Jan, it's not worth my time. Way is a good guy, but he's not a trained race background pro, he's a business owner with a day course. For instance, my friend who was Ducatis AMA team tuner did a 4 hr tune on my bike. I then saw the dyno and saw I lost power and started getting bitchy, he calmly told me to shut the hell up, cause the amount of power isn't important, it's putting the power where you can use that matters. So I took a lap, and low and behol i annihilated my previous lap time. There's a reason you've never seen a 0-60 or 1/4 mile time from Rape My Wallet, they got big numbers and no ***** in the low end, I walked a BHV several times on a stock head and pulley

Yup. That rant was full of the partisan hyperbole that's par for the tuners' course. I think it's funny.

We don't tune at Helix, but provide dyno services with our in-house Mustang MD250 dyno. We've had a number of tuners utilize our facility, some with greater success than others. One characteristic that they all seem to share is no lack of confidence in their own abilities, and a certainty that all other tooners are amateurs.

Your post was straight from the mouth of one such tuner. I'm sure your guy is good, but so are many of the tuners that we have worked with over the years: GIAC, Cobb, Burger, RMW, Bytetronik, PTF, Vishnu.

No offense to those tuners except one. I wouldn't consider those private shop tuners comparable to my friends tuning, I'd say since he tunes for Ducati, one of the most prestigious names in racing, that's like comparing NFL to pee wee football. Anyone can take a course, very few people get hired to tune for a company who's dominated motorcycle racing for decades.

The 'one' I think you refer to tunes for Porsche, THE most prestigious name in racing*.

*Sounds good, doesn't it? Lest I get sucked into a hyperbolic brag-a-thon, let's be clear: no small tuning shop from Florida tunes the Ducati Factory Moto GP team, and no small tuner from California tunes for Porsche Motorsports. There are plenty of 'factory supported' 'professional' regional race teams that can use tuning services from local tuners. That doesn't mean the small local tuners are part of the factory racing effort or give them particular claim to excellence. Incidentally, 99.9% of professional race teams lose money. They call themselves professional, because they spend professional dollars. I was employed by a Grand Am team whose specialty was, like so many professional teams, turning money into noise. It was a big dollar effort with techs, crew and crew chief that really weren't that impressive at the racing game (myself included). All you need to start a race team is a boat load of money.

You're right. I'm not from Florida though I came from work. I was however stationed is sigonella outside Catania when I was in the service, but that wasn't even where I know him from. I'm an Atlanta native, and my local mech was the duc shop run by Mark sutton, who's quite well regarded in the community and spent 3 or 4 years on the AMA team. I would of gladly told you about him if you asked but you instead assumed I was dishonest, and implied I was lying. I've had enough life experiences I try to forget to have time to make up fake ones, and this tisk has gone from playful to offensive, especially as a customer who's purchased from you for three years. Another thing that wasn't a lie was my plan to purchase an exhaust which I'm now gonna hunt elsewhere. lie was

If I had been addressing you directly it might not have been as obnoxious, but as a vendor you should hold yourself to a professional standard, which would include not butting into a conversation you weren't part of with patronizing remarks. I hope your the owner, because you'd be an embarrassment of an employee and as a representative of your company. However, I appreciate the heads up, I'll be hunting parts elsewhere.

^Meh^. Your initial post criticizing both Way and Jan as not 'real tuners' and calling them names was silly.

I never mentioned Jan by name which is pretty polite considering to what he did to me at one point, and I said way was a good guy. At this point I'm done corresponding with you, and you weren't even part of the conversation, and won't be later either. When these ***** back and forths from the safety of your keyboard carry into the next day it feel creepy and stalkerish. I made it pretty clear our business is done, so instead of wasting bpth our time you should probably go attend to the customers you have left, or find a girlfriend. Or hobby or somthing, I'm baffled this is the first thing you did upon waking up.
