Transmission: Need help making a decision

Have a 2007 S with 54,000 miles.
Had problems before where the timing belt messed up the engine and had to get a lawyer friend to write an email to bmw to have them replace it since our warranty JUST ran out and they wouldn't cover it even though we took it into the dealership for service every time.

After that whole debacle I started it back up and the check engine light came out with the screen showing problems with the transmission.

Now our trusted mechanic is telling us that it will cost 8000 to replace and fix.

My question is, I have had so much trouble with this car is it even worth replacing? If I choose not to replace/fix the car what are my options? Would I even be able to sell it? How much would that value for?

need help making decisions with the future of this car. Any input would help. Thanks you!

You could put a good used tranny in...the rest of the car is used once you drive off the lot...lots of cars get wrecked...
Then you decide to keep it or sell it...
But it must be fixed, or you will take a beating $$ wise when you sell it.
