NM Engineering Intake and Catback Exhaust

Looking at getting just the Hi-Flow Intake Kit, and the Catback exhaust. I've had the DOS intake installed for a little while and it's noise is not as appealing to me as it once was Has anybody used the NM combo? Sound good? Only issue I could find through search was the whistling sound on the exhaust, but it doesn't appear to be on all of them. I still have the stock exhaust on for now, looking for a little more noise there and some performance, and a slightly quieter intake. Thanks for any opinions!!!

I cannot coment on the exhaust. However, I ran the NM Intake for about a year. Worked perfect. Nothing great about the sound, unless it's the spool and DV noises you are hearing under boost, due to the open Intake System. Not sure why you would want to go from a DOS to a NM Intake But overall my NM gets the job done. Only thing I disliked about it was having an oiled filter. So I switched out that filter to a Dri one, paired with the NM Hardware. Best of both worlds, I guess.

If your DOS is in the same condition as mine, I'd swap with you my NM + 2 Filters/for your DOS

I have this combo along with a catless downpipe. Car is loud at WOT. Drones really bad on the freeway. But sound is very deep and pleasant otherwise. Intake is inferior to DOS however. Hope this helps

I run the NM full exhaust. It's a great product and has an amazing sound. They resolved the whistling issues. I can't say anything about their intake as I don't run one.

I also run the DP-back exhaust. I got it a year ago, no whistles. All good. Like SC 77 I'm also running a catless DP. However, and maybe this is perception, I don't think it drones that bad on the highway. Sure it could be better, but thats what you get with a catless DP IMO.

From what I saw of the NM intake, its not as secure as I would like it. Just a couple screws and a thin mounting plate. But that is not first hand experience.

The whistle was sort of neat.
The red car was running the NM resonator back when he did this run and it sounded like a train. Swapped out for the downpipe back and the noise went away.

He ran a 14.4 with terrible launch BTW

I think for ease of returning to stock...I may go with the downpipe back version.

Thats exactly why I did the DP Back version. Realistically, This car will eventually be traded for another MINI down the road much like my previous MINI was. So before I trade it off I will take off all the goodies and return to stock. Dealers don't care to sell modded cars, people shy away from them thinking the owner abused them (in many cases this is true).

DP Back is the way to go.

I'm running the NM downpipe back exhaust. Everyone compliments me on the sound. The quality is great, it ships as the sections and installation was a snap. I don't notice any drone with mine.

I should clarify my post. I have the DP back full exhaust as well. However to the members who do not experience any drone, #1,you must not have a catless DP. #2 you must not ever have a passenger. #3 you must never load the engine (as in driving uphill @3k rpms). Either the aforementioned, or my car is an anomaly.

The DP was the largest factor that changed my exhaust. Just dp-back exhaust, no drone. With DP I have minor/moderate drone, not severe.

I would tell you all that even a stock cooper has that drone. Driving around in my wife's CMS, stock, and at 3000 rpm under load I hear a distinct exhaust note. If it had no cat and or resonator it would be pronounced right around that point.

Biggest issue is that during highway/interstate driving at about 70 plus mph in overdrive gear the MINI is usually at about 3000rpm. So if you modified your exhaust, drone is inevitable. Some set ups more pronounced than others, but still there none the less.

That's where we get into perception. With both MINI's I've had the stock exhaust was barely audible. Now those were both cooper S hardtops so they might sound different than a CMS

It also may have to do with Hearing. I know "I" pass my annual hearing exams with flying colors. LOL, J/K...😁
