Cooper S exhaust special

Rhythm Motorsports is having a group buy on the new Skunk2 exhaust system....they need atleast 12 people for this to go through...

if you are interested contact me via pm or post here...as soon as I see 12 I will call Rhythm after a 24hr notice...

the system LISTS for around $1200.00. This due to AC schnitzers $999.99 system. Skunk2 says the don't wanna saturate the market like the hondas and other ricers have...they value the Mini products...

NOW....since Rhythm are the only ones selling it at this point Skunk2 is letting them retail it for around $750.00 to keep it with in borla price range....during this group buy it is going for $640.00 with $35.00 shipping to anywhere.....

As for HP gains....like most you are looking at 10 hp....that's what all the Dyno pulls in Cali have shown thus far....heh heh...YAY!

thanks in advance for your interest I am real excited about this

I will post a sound clip as soon as I get one

That is a very beautiful system and the price is just perfect. I'd jump on it if I was in the market for an exhaust, but only if it's not too loud.

Hi Tuls - welcome to NAM!

Not to squelch your excitement, but this sounds like a bunch of marketing hoo-hah to me. I've been looking at MCS exhausts over the past year trying to wait out the pricing insanity - no way any of these exhausts should be selling for over $600, let alone $999 or $1200. I also don't understand the comment about saturating the market.. The MINI market is so much smaller than the Honda/Acura market (which is apparently Skunk2's sweet spot) that I'm not sure they're in a position to saturate it. Especially at $1200 What does the pricing have to do with AC Schnitzer's price? Is this system made by AC Schnitzer?

I would say that the reason it's being sold for $640 + shipping is that is just about what the market will bear -- we've seen similar group buys on the Borla in the past, and they've been in that price range.

With the list of commonly known available MCS exhausts numbering in the 10-12 range, I'm quite certain that this one, although it is nice looking, will not be that significantly different than the others.

I still haven't purchased an exhaust - mostly because I haven't had much of a chance to see and listen to anything other than the Magnaflow (too loud, drone, wacky tips).

Tuls,

Aloha and welcome to NAM.

Nice pics of the Skunk2 exhaust and in your gallery.

This exhaust looks like it would be similar to the Borla Race.
I'd expect performance similar to many of the other exhausts out there for the MCS until an independent dyno test shows otherwise.

It does look like the centerpipe tapers down a bit as it reaches the Y bend before the two mufflers.

The finish looks good. Not sure about the fitment and how it might hang.
What is the weight? Does it drone? For comparison in loudness-where does it fall compared to other MCS exhausts?

$35 shipping to anywhere? I doubt that they would eat the cost of shipping it to Hawaii where it usually costs us $100 for a double exhaust.

LOL thanks for the welcome and the replys....let's see if I can answer some of this or let you knwo what I cannot currently...

shipping is more for Hawaii you are right it will be about 50-60 + depending on the island

As for sounds clips...I'll get one asap...prolly monday

Dyno chart if available from the current pulls ....monday...lol

I am not new to the car tuning world and share all the same idea/concerns as you all I will not tolorate droning or an overly loud exhuast....so I guess that goes back to the sound clip on monday ...if possible

as for the BigBrownDog honeslty the profit that Rhythm makes is notta I know casue I know the owner...hence the reason I found out about this.....and as for Skunk2 selling at the price they are...you are absolutely right in that they are selling it for what the market will allow...and the reason they are comparing to AC Schnitzer is cause...well...I'll assume they hold thier product in the same reguard.....all in all I dunno

I do know that whatever the case...over the yrs I have always tried to get what I can for my cars at less than retail.....still, I've always been willing to spend a resonable amount for a quality product...

So for all of you who have questions that are not currently answered know that I will review it all on monday and do what I can to get the info....even if I have to drive out to cali and pic it up my self....heh heh

It sure looks like 2-1/2" tapered to 2" before the "Y". I highly doubt it will drone if that is the size...

I don't accually think it tapers I think it's the reflection of the floor and surrounding walls...

whatever the case I'll let you know on monday if we're all lucky...LOL

It's definitely a different style of tuninig than current cat-backs, I'm curious to see the dyno and hear the sound.

look forward to seeing those results - thanks for bringing a new exhaust to our attention.

I will be honest though - i am a bit skeptical on those HP claims. Many a new manufacturer comes out bragging about high horsepower, and every time we have a member strap one on the dyno, it almost NEVER lives up to what its claimed too. I am impressed by conservative claims backed up by big numbers on the dyno.... I know this sounds odd, b/c who would buy products that claim so little - well, word gets out, believe me people know.

I will anxiously await a customer dyno sheet of this exhaust.

Cheers

thanks for the update Tuls! thought this exhaust was maybe made by Invidia but i was wrong. very pretty looking and seems to be well made. if the dyno sheets tell me what you already have...i'll buy this system quicker than you can say "buy it now" can we also expect Skunk2 to possibly develop a header with cat? (please, please, please ) Also which Borla was the Skunk2 rep reffering to? Street or Race system? even a modest 7-9 hp gain and a solid 4-7 ft. lb. of torque would get me to go with this system at this price.

OK guys here's the long awaited Dyno chart...as far as sound tests...if you all can wait a about a week I am going to just buy one and throw the car on the dyno and take some video so you guys can really here what it sounds like

if any of you are ready now lemme know...the price is unfortunetly going to change if we can't get 12....unless I can really work something....but I'll keep you guys in formed...I jsut want a damn good exhuast...the test one is going to run us up words of 700 but I think it's worth it if I can get you guys hooked up...

This will be the one i get if there is no drone and the sounds is somewhat quiet when driving on the highway and most of all the price is good. If it is a high price i will go to another exhaust.

Pretty.

Expensive.

Major bends before the 90 degree tip bend... just under 140 degrees or so?

And I won't even go into manufacturer produced dyno sheets, it's way too easy to tweak them with a simple temp/barometric pressure adjustment. Hopefully someone will do their own dynos to back up these claims.

Sorry so dubious, just based on all the exhaust testing out there to date there isn't more than 6 or so horsepower to be found that way. Happy to be proven wrong though.

Doesn't look like much hp increase. And if I am reading it correctly virtually no torque increase at all.
