Rogue Engineering carries one - I think it is the same as the Mini Madness one.

One of our clients had his 2004 S used by B&M last week to prototype the new shifter. Look for it in 30 days.

From what I understand about the Rogue shifter, it simply shortens the throw of the current shifter. It does not shorten the shift height at all. A local owner (well, sort of) has it and said it's easy to install, inexpensive, and good height if you like the stock shifter, but want a shorter throw.

Any word on the B&M shift kit for an 04? I didn't see any shift kits on the M7 website.

Like the B & M Short Shifter

I have a B&M on my 03 MCS and it makes all the difference in the world. I have helped install 2 B&M and 1 of the $25 dollar e-bay shifters. There is quite a difference, you get what you pay for, that is for sure. In all three applications we did not install the replacement metal bushings fearing too much vibration. I don't think they are needed except for a racing application.
The currendt B&M will only fit up to mid year 03 cars. Check with B&M they should have a late model unit out shortly.
P.S. Very easy to install, great instructions are included. It took us about 1.25 hours to make the switch. The hardest part is breaking the connection behind the converter to drop the exhaust.
Good Luck, you won't regret putting one on.

i have the pilo, ive been trying to get minipilo in one of these threads to tell us if the shifter they sell is from megan

as for the metal bushings.. i got them on with mine, and it does feel a tad more solid i believe... it does induce a very minor vibrations mostly in third gear when i step on it

Doug,

Thanks for the response, I’m a great believer in you get what you pay for. I would like to get the B&M so it will fit my Whalen with out any modifications otherwise I would be getting the Alta. I have been looking at various sites for an update as to when the shifter would be available for an 04 but haven’t seen any to date only it should be available shortly.

I think that M$M will have there item out within the next 3 weeks. I will ask them at the show for a update and report on Sat.We do not plan on offering a short shifter as B&M really has a fine unit out already. I used the metal bushings but it looks like most people opt for going with the original.

The B&M is a nice piece of work.
I made rubber washers and put them under the the metal bushings bedded in with silicon gasket sealer. No vibrations, nice solid feel, needed longer bolts and lock washers though.

Aaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggg! The metal bushings replacing the rubber OEM ones is what made the B&M different from all the others. More positive feel as the shifter box lost its flex. Yours is still stiffer than stock though.

Reply about material used

Oh yes way stiffer no flex at all. The rubber just act's like an isolator. The stuff I used was the red rubber flange gasket material for steam pipes, about 1/16 in. thick.

B&M's

We stock B&M's and have been notified by B&M that the newer (2004>) units will be avialable shortly after the New Year.

Thanks for every ones replies. I wait to hear Randy’s report after Sat. and will check www.myminiparts.com after the first of the year to see if there is a B&M available for an 04. Also the notes on the various bushings is interesting. I think I would try the metal and if I had a vibration problem try some of the tweaks noted here.

Quick comment about the ALTA™ shifter...

we do make versions for both the earlier and later cars.

By the end of the year customers will have two options:

Shifter w/ALTA Polished ****

or

Shifter w/ factory **** adapter

This is being done by request of the NAM and MINI2 forum members. MSRP on both is $179.99 and many dealers sell them for less. Both of these choices still have full adjustability and are made from hardened steel to prevent breakage and bending under hard shifting.

If we can help in any way further PLEASE just let one of us know!

This is great news. I believe that the request for a shifter that will fit a stock **** is so that they will fit the Whalen shift *****. When you say a factory **** adapter is this an adaptor that will screw on to the shifter and then the **** will attach to the adapter? Better would be a shifter that will accept a stock **** with out an adapter.

But I will be checking back after the first of the year to see what ya got available.

Thanks

the adapter is mounted to the shaft...

on the version for the factory type shift ****. This smooths production as many customers do not want to use the Whalen or stock **** and we can then supply the same center shaft for both parts. This adapter will also be available separately for customers that have purchased our shifter in the past and now want to use the stock ****.

Hope that clears it up!

According to the reps at the SEMA show it looks like another 2 to 3 weeks for the 04 and later model and should still retail in the 130 range .

as promised' here's my first impressions.SS will take some getting used to as it is quite a lot stiffer than the original.Shifter itself is a few inches shorter and as such reduces the mechanical advantage of a longer fulcrum.Especially noticable going into reverse, which was always stiff.Randy Webb did the install, and man am I glad he did(yarrowsports has a lift,I would NOT recommend that anybody try this on the ground with jack stands. As mentioned earlier ,getting the cat back split apart was a real challenge in my 41 k. NE car(2 winters with salt etc).Unit was installed with metal bushings, and I am not conscious of any undue vibration in any gear.I'm totally glad I did this mod,and I'm already (200 miles later) getting used to the new feel. Randy webb is such a hoot: when he finally got the tail pipe off " Say my name! WHO'S YOUR DADDY!" If it isn't scottish.........IT"S CRRRAP!
