Ones anyone know of a cone type filter that'll fit in the stock Gen 2 air box?

I got one from ECS for my stock JCW box that I think will work. It is an AFE brand. Chat up ECStuning and see if it fits your application.

MikewithaMini - Thanks for the mention. I think you mean Pipercross for the JCW kit. We do carry aFe but its the panel filter.

If you have a N14 Engine JCW tuning kit or N14 JCW tuning kit air box that uses the tube filter, you can upgrade to the Pipercross tube filter.

Nice. I didn't know they made a newer version of the JCW airbox/filter. How does that elbow mount to the outlet of the airbox? Is this upper portion of the box different from the stock box or did they just figure out a way to fit in in there and keep it sealed?

Thanks

That's for the N14 Turbo engine Airbox. The N18 Engine airbox would have to have the bottom section of the lid off of the N14 if thats the engine.

I did not ask you model, showing what Mike was referring to.

Let me know what year and model.

Thanks

Ahh. Yep. I had an N18 engine. The boxes look the same (I've had both) from a cursory inspection and from what I remember of my N14. Are the differences subtle? Ie. where the rubber grommets sit, where the torx fasteners are positioned? Something small but important like that?

Since the New JCW Airbox if a flat panel filter. What people have been trying to do is take the bottom stock section from a N14 engine then pair it with the above N14 JCW Tuning kit airbox , to put it in there N18 engine.

N14 airbox has the four screws in the front.

N14 engine

VS

The N18 Engine

The base of the box foot pegs are the same location for both N14 and N18.

Thanks

Just to add, I got a Tune Kit and the JCW airbox for N14 R56 came with a tube type which I swapped out for what I thought was a aFe based on the stickers that came with it. I'd have to check back on my orders to verify but it was ECS bought. The filter came with an adaptor to make it work with the connector in the lower part of the box. I said Cone, but yes, it is a tube. And it is paper.

Thanks ECS. I figured it was something extremely stupid like switching from 4 to 3 screws lol! I'd be happy with a tube filter or a cone honestly. I'm trying to get away from the panel filter altogether.

So what you are saying is the tube filter came with an extension/coupler that made it possible to mount inside the outlet (top) portion of the airbox?

Yep the JCW tube filter & gasket was made to fit on the base of the N14 Engine stock box, as apart of the JCW Tuning kit upgrade to the N14. You cannot buy the bottom of the N14 stock airbox from MINI. You have to get the full N14 airbox , Use the bottom section. Then match it with the JCW Tuning kit top ( which comes with the tube filter ). The bottom inlet long flexible snake tube is the same on the N14 and N18. The MAF location is about the same.

N14 Air intake box.

Then use the top JCW Tuning Kit box w/ filter above, then you can upgrade to the Pipercorss tube filter. Then you are done.

Mike thanks for the info! I'm toying with some mod ideas which might include this JCW top portion of the box. Will contact ECS if I go forward with it.
