I didn't talk to the m7 guys directly about the "device." Randy (Webb) was the one who told me about it, and Steve did the install, so I was never personally sworn to secrecy. I can take a hint, however.

I think the game playing by M7 and his cronies about this so-called secret could actually hurt your business. If this was such a remarkable device that you were giving away for free what is the big deal about revealing what it is and does. MSFITOY keeps emailing you about making mirror brackets and it seems like all you do is ignore him. All it takes is for a few people talking about how bad of a company you are and thats all folks. Also the way you told Ryephile this had nothing to do with a ryefix, pretty sad for someone who has spent months trying to fix his problem and you guys can't even tell the guy what your SECRET DEVICE is even if the 2 are not related. I guess I will have to find another vendor to buy my aftermarket items from when I get my car in August!

Whine whine whine. You sound like my supercharger .00000001 seconds after I tip in the throttle.

Someone PM'd me with "the secret" and since I'm not sworn to secrecy, I'll reveal the "device" right now.

I can confirm it will fit in a SASE, so those facts match.

It's a template that covers the speedometer so that you go from:

to

You can see that it's not quite finished, and that's why M7 wanted to keep the release for another day or so.

So, now you know all about it.

Just to clarify, the main benefit I've seen is in throttle response, which can't be measured on a dyno, though I think it will help a bit with low-end torque.

I was wondering about that (dyno results of throttle response.)
I supposed it could lead to more area under the line, but unless you had a time component (vs. the normal RPM scale) I can't see what a dyno would do to show increased throttle response.
I really don't get the whole secrecy thing.

Like I said, it seems to help a bit in the low-end torque department. We'll see.

>>Ryephile. The device is nothing even close to what you have done, we told you this earlier. Don't you beleive us ? This device, unlike yours still allows the valve to function properly allthough more effeciently than stock. It does not permamently lock the valve closed , avery bad idea indeed. We will be giving it away free as a lovely parting gift at the pulley party again tomorrow. Shortly we will be distributing it free to anyone that sends us a stamp self addressed envelope. We are waiting to actually play with it on a dyno first so the number kids have something to live with. Now ryphile if you like feel free to use OUR idea and give your item out for free as welll

>>I am another victim of "The Device." I can honestly say it is the most harmless looking mod I have ever seen.
>>
>>Driving home, however, I realized this was not harmless. I found myself driving much harder and accelerating much faster than I had any right to do. I noticed the difference in throttle response. And having a responsive car is, well, fun.
>>
>>It is clear to those who have driven with "The Device" that it makes a difference. How much of a difference is something that people can argue about and post dyno charts, but it is a difference. And, if m7 is willing to provide it for free, they should (in my opinion) be commended. How often does anyone really get anything for free with no strings attached?
>>
>>And I do believe everyone should lighten up a bit. Juvenile langauge, heaven forbid! What is the world coming to?
>>
>>Thanks to m7 for hosing a great event.
>>
>>  can i install this myself average knowledge

Yeah, so long as you don't have carpal tunnel syndrome or something. It takes a little bit of wrist bending to get in there.

Device, device, device... Jeeze, name it already, or is the name secret too.
If the intention is to give it away, give it away! Rather than spending time stuffing envelopes, just publish the facts. If this thing is real, it must use cheap easily available parts, or it couldn't be offered for free. Just publish the parts list and instructions, and praise and thanks will roll in, instead of skeptisism.

In the meantime... device is in de garage on de bench.

With a pretty stagnant aftermkt as of late, and a handful of tuners exploring our MINI's potential, such petty gripes are not productive in encouraging further developments for us. I know that it would dissuade many

Whether M7's approach makes good business sense to someone is an opinion that really doesn't matter in the whole scheme of things. I don't care to ponder if it is prudent to do so, and I don't know why others feel so inclined to pass judement on how he operates his venture. Let your money talk, or stamp in this case. It's his business to run as he likes, and if enough people agree he's on target, M7 has success. If sufficent folks feel otherwise, he fails as a business man. The market as a whole decides, the bickering does not.

People know of M7, and his products. This one is not officially released yet, but there is obviously some interest with well over 100 posts and nearly 3,000 views in less than one day! Exposure, buzz, or whatever one wants to call it, that is attention, and M7 gets it.

Keep up with the new ideas and innovation!

Let's count the number of GIAC threads that have been created, and re-surfaced over the past year. Often times these were started by people, or had folks chiming-in (apparently with insightful info, and secrecy) providing only vague particulars, like torque figures. At least here a few MINI's are recipients of this modification already...

I even recall a thread comparing the then unreleased UNIChip with the still not released GIAC. Go figure... people like to talk and create their dang buzz if one is not there...

And while I would venture to guess that GIAC will be a top performer, this type or style of information exchange is not uncommon.
