Drivetrain M7 Device for MINI Cooper S
I knew it would be busy when I got back today lets see what answers I have for you all. Installed about 15 new " devices " today and the responce was positive across the board.
" is this device going to have any effects on gas mileage? is it hard to install? any cutting, drilling, relocating, etc?
gas mileage effects not sure on that one to be honest, hard to install no and no cutting, drilling or relocating
Gravedigger sorry you took my responce so seriously. We like playing with trippy as we can't really take anything he says seriously as he still believes the plasma Booster is the root of all evil. ( Installed 3 today BTW ). As for my age I really wish i was only 20 but alas I graduated , yes i did graduate, college in 1972. I find it odd that you took exception as you did as when i read the entire post thread to those at the party today it was quite a comic relief and they all wanted to know where their checks are and if Trippy was feeling better.. I think your opinion might be in the minority on this one but then again it is only my opinion  I am happy that you are interested in our products but wish you could see the tongue in cheek responce is only in keeping with the post it is dealing with.BTW Gravedigger we are only keeping those on our XMAS list that can understand out sense of humor so you are now on double secret probation. ( see if any 20 yr old knows where that came from LOL )
Jack so you are the ones responsible for Randy talking funny Eh ?
To all those that want to send your envelops we will decide on a address sometime next week. I will be sure to post everywhere so no worries
Thanks for all the interest,
Randy

>>I understand you and Peter have disagreed with people like Trippy and Andy in the past. I understand you both have your own opinions. I don't have any problem with you asserting your side of the story.
>>
>>However, the juvenile way you do so ruins any chance of credibility. Considering you work with Peter, I'm guessing you're at least 20 or so. You do understand things like "Oh wait thats rite the poster was most likely paid thousands of dollars to make that post, no he was a relative yes thats it he was a she thats it it was my mom that made the post" are how 12-year olds argue with each other, don't you?.
>>
>>If you want anyone to take you seriously, please stick to debating facts and figures in an adult manner. I'm interested in things you guys develop (any new ideas for making more power are welcome!), but talking like adolescent kids sure turns me off and I'm sure others feel the same. If you can't act like a professional on here, I have trouble expecting professional dealings with your company.

hi Doug..
does the phrase "tongue in cheek" mean anything to you??
after watching Peter and Randy get slammed on these boards for some time.. the humor of the situation just gets to me..
I have the "device" installed in my car.. Have had if for a couple of weeks.. and it is just un believeable..
when you step on the throttle the car just takes off.. no waiting.. no thinking about it.. it just goes..
It is incredibly simple, and this makes it a very elegant mod..
when you get it in the mail,, i am sure, some of our readers will think that it is a joke.. but it really does work..
a
btw: I got paid enough for this review to get my pulley mod done!!!

Well, it's been a day now since I had it done. Man, I didn't know NAM was about polygamy. You guys all argue like a bunch of married people!
Two things:
1. My gas mileage has taken a hit, but only because I can't resist stepping on it. The power is just there for the taking!
2. I now have to readjust my heel & toe timing, because I'd learned to compensate for the throttle lag I had before the mod. Now that the mod is in, I keep revving too much for the next lower gear. The result of the increased throttle sensitivity is that when I do match correctly, I can pull off shifts much more quickly than before.

BTW, by "my gas mileage has taken a hit", I mean about 1-1.5 mpg, down to about 24.5 mpg. I don't think this is due to the mod, but moreso due to the irresistible urge to hear my supercharger whining in synchrony with my right foot.
Hi Guys.....
Finaly home after an fantasic day, meeting up with a bunch of great people who loves their Mini as much as I do....
As for the mod I think the "Ultimate" set up is the "Device" with the M7 light weight flywheel
All I can say is...... WOW holy sh#@........can you say explosive throttle response. Highly recomended.

I had it done today, I have to say I notice a difference. It’s a faster throttle response, it is quite nice. I found myself reving to 100mph all night. Talk about an easy install, takes like no time to do the actual install.
Ryephile: I know your threads, I know your fixes, and I know the huge amount you have contributed to the MINI community with your hard work. This is a different fix, similar (or the same?) gains at the end but the ‘device’ is different from ryfix #1 and #2. I’m not getting into any of the “who came first” stuff. I am just posting from my personal experiences.
I too have had my skepticism with m7 before; to this day I am still a little skeptical of the Plasma Booster. I was skeptical of this ‘device’ as well. We had another one of our members get just this device installed and nothing else. He has the ProMINI Boost Gauges and can watch his vacuum/boost amounts in real-time. We saw a VERY noticeable difference on the gauge. No seat of the pants or guessing, I saw the values change with my own eyes. The amount of vacuum increased, the speed at which it goes to vacuum from idle and the vacuum to boost are much faster.
I was asked to not go into details yet on what it is and how it’s installed, Randy said it will be posted soon.
I mentioned earlier my skepticism with m7, this extends only to the PB. I have held there Carbon Fiber and it’s an amazing work of art. Their lightweight flywheel is an innovative design that keeps it from warping under extreme heat. While the wing is not my style at the speed Peter and Randy drive it does work. The design is along the same lines as the wing John Cooper Works uses for their Race series in the UK. I also saw many of their new products including sway bar links. I have to say I was impressed with nearly everything in there product lineup. I can find at least one item at every aftermarket MINI part manufacturer that I don’t like but they should be judged on there whole lineup. There generosity in giving this away to the community has renewed my faith in m7 as a top quality MINI performance part shop.

Randy & astra - yes, I get tongue-in-cheek. But tongue-in-cheek humor is achieved without resorting to pre-puberty language. And I wouldn't even care so much if it were just two guys ribbing each other, but Randy is representing M7 tuning and I think all vendors / sponsors should conduct themselves with maturity regardless of what their detractors say or how they say it (IMHO).
Just offering some advice. Like I said, I'm interested in your stuff and I'm sure others are as well - don't ruin it by looking like a bunch of juvenile clowns.

I had the device installed today, I can honestly say that there was a noticable increase in performance. I have a Promini boost gauge, I was amazed at how quickly my boost went to 10LBS (I don't have the pully mod), in addition the throttle much more responsive.
Hey c'mon, guys. Have a friggin' sense of humor. You guys sound like teenagers aching to be adults, trying to suppress any fun-poking in an attempt to live up to some serious, "mature" image. Save it for the board room. Don't forget what these forums are for: FUN!
I also had the "Device" installed today at the Randy Webb/M7 Pulley party. I have a 2002 MCS with 31k and 16k with a 15% pulley and Alta CAI. The device gives instant gratification with much improved throttle response. I am one of the fortunate early owners that never had stumble or Yo-Yo issues, but this little mod is the BOMB! Everybody that owns an MCS needs this, and M7 will send it to you for a SASE! Dead simple, 2 minute install, just make sure the car is cold or you will get burned. Randy T. will fill in the details next week.

Don't want to beat this to death and I am actually having more fun with the age qualifer thing but I am confused to what pre puberty language may have been used? If you want some pre puberty language ther was a real specialist with that who doesn't seem to be here any more from what I can tell. He taught me all i know LOL . In any event thanks for the advice and interet in our product line but I do intend to keep on entertaining as well as informing.
As for this posts age qualifier Hmmmm. What was the date on the number one draw in the First draft lottery? A hint is it was my birthday

So whats the deal w/ you fly wheel? How is it different than the others available now? Whats the price? You have a clutch to go with it?
And, I can't wait to get this device. I HATE the throttle lag on the Mini.

I am another victim of "The Device." I can honestly say it is the most harmless looking mod I have ever seen.
Driving home, however, I realized this was not harmless. I found myself driving much harder and accelerating much faster than I had any right to do. I noticed the difference in throttle response. And having a responsive car is, well, fun.
It is clear to those who have driven with "The Device" that it makes a difference. How much of a difference is something that people can argue about and post dyno charts, but it is a difference. And, if m7 is willing to provide it for free, they should (in my opinion) be commended. How often does anyone really get anything for free with no strings attached?
And I do believe everyone should lighten up a bit. Juvenile langauge, heaven forbid! What is the world coming to?
Thanks to m7 for hosing a great event.

I was there today and, um, didn't get it done!
(It was great meeting everyone, BTW)
Steve did install an Alta pulley and K&N Typhoon intake,
so I'm still having some trouble removing my right foot from
the gas pedal and the smile from my face.
Randy - you gonna be at Steve's tomorrow?
I gotta get this mod done...

I have had this very simple modification in my 2003 MCS for about 2 months, and can say that the car now "gets up to speed" without any lag. My boost guage shows a very brisk jump to about 10psi when I hit the accelerator. BTW, I have a 61mm throttle body, iridium plugs, Plasma Booster, Pipercross Viper CAI, 15% pulley, Evotech ECU upgrade, Mania header and Milltek cat back, as well as the M7 flywheel, Quaiffe TSD, and Spec 2 clutch.
The lighter flywheel (15 vs. 27 lbs) has been dramatic. Again, when I hit the accelerator, the tach is at 4k in just about no time. This is quite different from the response with the stock flywheel. I really do think the "device" has allowed for a much quicker and smoother rise in boost pressure, while the decrease in mass and inertia of the flywheel has permitted the rapid rise in engine speed. As has been stated by several others, it's difficult not to work the accelerator.
Randy Webb drove my car on Sunday, with me as the observant passenger. I thought I new how to get that car to get up and go, but Randy made that car really sail. BTW, the header with Milltek cat back at WOT provided a wonderful auditory experience.

David sorry you didn't get hooked up today with the " device " . As we ran out of version 3 rev c you will get the new and improved version 3 rev D  Seriously I should be there from about 11 on. I dont think RW has a pulley install schedualed until then anyway.

P.S we will post a mailing address for those self stamped and addressed envelopes by weeks end. A normal buisness sized letter with 2 stamps should cover it but I will swing by the post office and check in then next few days.
PPSS thanks to all for the positive thoughts it makes the work all the more worth it.

I really like it when people in the MINI community come together with an idea and then everyone can benefit.
Kind of like all the brake-light mods or Rheyphile mods. novce photos, and seeing the evolution is wonderful.
A little bit different than this thread though. I've got a secret. Nya nya nya nay nya NYA. Pretty childish in my opinion for a vendor to act so strangely with the MINI community.

This is kind of juvenile.
Why don't you just post a pic and explain what the "device" is? If it's free, it's not like you'd be losing any business.
Quit jerking everyone around. If you have something to share, share it.

Yeah, I don't understand why the device is so secret? Is this to create a "buzz" factor? Everyone who has posted that they received this mod have under 100 posts and many this is one of their first few posts. Not to take away anything from the first-timers, we appreciate you on the board and welcome you, but it doesn't help the "buzz" factor at all. Now if someone who had a longtime history on the board was posting that he thought the device was great, the buzz would be much more effective.
What is so secret about the design that you don't want to mention anything about it? Usually posts like this tend to reveal a bad product. If it was so great it would be revealed right away. Let's see I think this has been done before? Transmeta chip, Segway scooter......
I think posting pictures of the product, a short write up of it, and some independent testing would be great and would go much farther in producing positive responses. I don't think most of us are negative about M7, but how do you expect many of us to react to a "device" that gives us all these benefits. I would like to see these benefits, don't get me wrong. It is just our natural skepticism about a "black-box". Without this information, this thread is going to degrade. You will have a few people who praise the product, but they can't say anything about the product, and then a lot of long term posters who have seen a lot of posts like this before, and degrade the product or the avenue that the discussion is taking.
