I'd be interested in the the black option if I can have it before going to MOTD and it fits a 2013 GP.

We've run into a production snag with the protruding front bars. I'm looking into solutions and will keep everybody updated. We will have the ability to powder coat the coolers black for an extra charge.

We do have the Gen 2 coolers in stock and available for immediate shipment if you can't wait. If you're in the crowd looking for the smoking price, than hang tight: we're working feverishly...

Would powder coating affect the efficiency of heat transfer ?

When looking to improve on the already best-in-class performance of our coolers, we looked at the design of the end tank, looking for ways to improve flow before and after the core. We identified an opportunity to improve laminar flow through the tanks at the ferrules and did a Solidworks redesign. Here's a redering:

....correct me if im wrong....but wouldnt you want to REDUCE laminar flow through the intercooler?

Laminar flow results in lower air speeds and is less effective at heat transfer because you are only heating the 'boundry layer' of the air that is in contact with the intercooler thermal surface.......most of the air flowing through will not actually contact the intercooler thermal surfaces because it will be insulated by the smoother flowing air.

it seems to me that you would want the air to be as turbulant as possible when flowing through the intercooler to increase air speeds and to create a more homognous temperature of the air.

But isn't Helix talking about the design of the end tanks? I'm not an expert in intercooler design, but I don't think the design of those tanks is optimized for maximum cooling. The design of the end tanks is probably more important for reducing pressure drop across the system, which would be greater for a more turbulent system (if I recall correctly).

Take me off I just bought the current model at MOTD from Helix. Suits me fine for my needs and had it installed, plus a short shifter and Hochkis rear sway bar

Did they mention anything about the new model when you talked to them at the Dragon?

I'd like to be part of the group buy if the price is right.

I spoke to Eric from Helix the other day and he said he was unable to provide an ETA on the gen 3 because they are still waiting on production from overseas.

Helix didn't offer the Group Buy!
The thread was started as a "IF You're Interested" thread.
Everyone wants a better price, but none was ever offered.
And somewhere in here They state they are working on a newer version.
This thread was actually started back in August of 2013.......

It's not too late, and we are getting close to announcing the GB. Prototypes are finally being built as we speak, and as soon as testing is done, we'll announce the GB. Finally, we're making real progress!!!
