Drivetrain How do you get 0-60 in less than 5.5 seoncds?

indeed that was a very confusing statement by M7

Seriously....why is it so hard to beleive that you can do a 5.5 0-60mph run in a Mini......
It reminds me about the "S gear box can only handle 180hp" discussion 2 years ago with a bunch of
ney sayers proudly stating that there is no way the "box" can take more then 180 or so hp.
I will take the car out next week to do a run with nitrous
sorry I can't do it this weeek as
we are getting readdy for a race this weekend.

dgszweda1, the manufacturer's claim was 6.9. However the best ever seen tested was 7.0 in Car and Driver I believe. Sport Compact had it at 7.4, have seen it at 7.3, and even higher in another magazine.

But we all know the drivers for any magazine can't drive worth a flip. Heck, they only have the cars for a little while. I've had mine for a month and I know I could do better on the launch with more practice.

If they're going into 3rd gear before 60, I imagine it's hurting their times. Everyone gets obsessive over clutch dumps and such on the launch, but wheelspin is not a good thing. You have to compromise between getting power to the wheels and to the road. A clean launch is fast.
Motorweek got to 60 in under 7 seconds.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but won't the new gearing of the MCS help? The original poster hasn't bought his MCS yet. I say wait for an 05 and do the standard pulley, chip, intake and exhaust and be happy with a sub 6.0 0-60 time.
Maybe?? No guarantees though!!!

Check out the following link. They changed the gearing on the 2005 MCS specifically to improve off the line performance.

I don't know if's a big improvement but looks like it might shave .2 of the 0-60.

The Getrag 6-speed uses two output shafts and only four forward gears. Gears 3 & 5 are both the same drive gear (1.333:1) and Gears 4 & 6 are both the same gear (1.089:1). With that design of transmission, if you make 3rd lower, it makes 5th lower by the same amount and vice versa.

Also see this thread -- lots of very helpful detail, including new redline speeds at each gear.
