Randy (WebbMotorsports) gave me a call today (thanks Randy) to go over
my situation with the UNIchip. I was pleasantly surprised.

Here is our summary:

1. I have the correct Unichip version: MINI04 for intake and catback standard map.

2. My MPG has improved, so the car is running leaner and running the correct
map to back up the label MINI04 that is on the back of the Unichip module.

3. MapA and B only differs in timing above ~80%+ throttle angle, so for normal
driving I would feel no difference between Map A and B. Since I am not
getting a CEL in MapB and drive on 93octane, Im probably good to go to
keep my map on B. I will switch back to MapB. The change in the car's
response I originally felt between MapA and B was probably not from the
Unichip, but could have been the ECU just adjusting to its new environment.

4. We went over the difference in power I felt...which I described as if it was
'maybe' a difference in perf in 32F weather vs 80F... Randy immediately
calculated that in his head and said, "that's about 11whp"... so, the Unichip
is probably working correctly.

I was glad ...but why did it not put a smile on my face?

5. My butt dyno is heavily biased by my WRX and its tuning computer...where
it can change dramatically in 40+ hp range in an instant.

6. ECU adjustments to its new environment under Unichip should only take a
couple of runs to adapt... 5-6 runs. It will take another 5-6 runs if I was
to remove the Unichip if I was to compare to the stock ECU map.

Overall, as my original review a few days ago when I wrote 4k and above had
a solid response is about as accurate as I can get. I was just expecting more.
The perception factor is too great between my cars to feel much difference, but
if you drove the MCS all day and put the Unichip on, you'll probably notice a
greater increase in response.

Conclusion: Don't drive a wrx before the Unichip install for just I/E map.
j/k. I'll keep it on my car. Maybe someone with a factory MCS can drag
race me into the expressway (?).

Geez, the I/E map is supposed to be one of the best Unichip maps as far as the numbers go. That doesn't sound very promising. As for the WRX, my MCS is already faster from third gear on and I don't even have an ECU yet!

on another note. I am working on becoming a unichip dealer on the east coast to help fufill orders and help people out over here. Once set, I will let you all know. The uni chip really seems to be a great product, and I'm glad that I have settled on it to sell to the public.

Thanks

>My friend has a wrx. It actally feels much slower then my MCS. even with out software. I guess that's what happenes when you start pouring money into a car

dang, my MCS must be super boggin' slow then even with software! you kinda stepped on
your own foot there.

btw, i wasn't comparing wrx vs mcs on my post above... i was talking about
the perception between my wrx with and without its computer and my mcs with and
without the Unichip. the differences on the MCS is subtle, I wasn't expecting it
to be that subtle because I got an eye opening difference when i did the pilo
intake and the milltek catback. Let's just say I was expecting too much.

(don't get all caught up about my wrx. Its a fast car and if it wasn't, it would have
been sold when I bought my mcs. Im not going to argue that your cars are fast
either. Im sure they are)

I also have the cylinder head and stuff done. That is a much larger increase then the software, it is also more then twice the money after the installation fee. The reason that there is not much gain with any software really, is because BMW again either did a good or bad job depending on which way you look at it. They didn't leave much room for improvement, but that doesn't mean that improvement can't be had. I plan to install the unichip on my car, and get any benefit that I can get. I have 185 at the wheels, and am looking for 200. so I need every boos that I can get to just that little bit. I still have some special goodies sitting in the garage waiting for a full weekend install that whould puch my to the limit!

btw, my friends WRX is bone stock. so I'm not sure where your WRX is at to compare.
