Drivetrain Eisenmann exhaust...
anyone know anything about this? i know they're real quality stuff and all handmade in Germany, blah, blah, blah, i would love numbers and i'd even like to know if it was cat-back or not. anyone? RPM Racing in Huntington Station, L.I., NY has them for $725.
just talked to guys at RPM they said they're made to order in 3 different versions (street, sport, race) one being louder and more free flowing than the next, and it's NOT cat-back, it's axle-back!
$725 doesn't seem so good a price anymore.

A cat-back exhaust is the part of the exhaust system after the catalytic converter.
It includes a length of piping, the muffler (the fat part), and exhaust tip (the visible end). Axle-back exhausts, I think,
just include the muffler and exhaust tips. Hope that helps.

Then wouldn't all exhaust systems be cat-back? Since there is really no exhaust system that I've heard of that has all of the components in front of the catalytic converter.
Do cat-back exhaust systems perform better then non cat-back exhaust systems?
Is the stock MCS a cat-back exhaust system?

A good example of a full exhaust system upgrade is the Milltek exhaust header and sport cat-back exhaust. $900 plus $800 respectively. Most of the exhaust upgrades for MC and MCS are cat-back so that they are easy to match with the stock exhaust header- this keeps the price down as well.
Supersprint makes a full exhaust system upgrade as well but sells pieces ala carte but it all adds up pretty high.
>>Do cat-back exhaust systems perform better then non cat-back exhaust systems?
If the makers of the exhaust do their homework then the results should be better than the stock exhaust. It is possible that a non cat-back system could out perform a cat-back exhaust but I have not seen any that can do that and be backed up by independent dyno results.
The Devil exahaust sold by Diamond Racing is an example of a non cat-back exhaust. It might not be stainless steel like many of the cat-back exhausts.
>>Is the stock MCS a cat-back exhaust system?
Yes the stock exhaust which is removed to be replaced would be considered cat-back if you leave in the stock exhaust header.
I see. Then saying a cat-back or axel-back exhaust system really means how much of the exhaust system you are replacing and not so much as a type of exhaust system.
This also means that since the MINIs have their catalytic converter way up front attached to the header down pipe any exhaust upgrade short of replacing the header would be a cat-back or axel-back upgrade.
Thanks for enlightening a soon to be MCS owner.

Yes. So, when people say "I have a cat-back exhaust" you can translate it to: "I've replaced the part of my original exhaust system after the catalytic converter with an aftermarket system (to improve performance and/or sound)"

Does anybody here have the Eisenmann exhaust installed?
I would like to know how it sounds compared to the stock one and if someone actually dynoed it.
Eisenhaus claims that it is quiter than all the others.
Thanks,
Alex
