intercooler muffler delete on n18 not recommended

http://www.vipcustomparts.com/engine%20parts%20page.htm

want to order this intercooler muffler delete because it's a great price and free shipping, but it says it's not recommended for 2011+ isn't a piece of pipe a piece of pipe? anyone know why they wouldn't recommend it?

I saw this as well and have wondered the same thing. I suppose you/we could email them I actually have the stuff to do a DIY pipe at some point...I suppose if we get an answer here then I will know whether to return the parts. Cheers!

Eric at Helix has said in some other posts that the intercooler muffler delete does nothing to increase horsepower.

It just makes some more noise.

Dave, I kinda knew that I suppose as there isn't a whole lot to be gained by many bolt-on parts. So how much more noise? And is it a 'good' noise? Meaning that I want to do an exhaust but if the muffler delete added a good note then I would hesitate to add an aftermarket exhaust. What do you think? Thanks!

Check out my thread here

Don't spend all of that money on a muffler delete. Just do what several others and I have done and make it yourself. Just go to the parts store and get a piece of 2" outside diameter exhaust pipe and cut it down to 8". Paint it whatever color you want and save a ton of money. Believe me you do not need the bracket to mount a little piece of pipe.

I have the parts for this exact mod but have yet to do it. Nealuss, did you get the ends flared or did you leave it unflared? Seems like it *could* pop off. Cheers

I haven't heard a car with the intercooler muffler deleted, so I couldn't say what it sounds like.

Regarding flaring the ends of your homemade delete pipe, There is an old motorcyclist's trick of spraying hairspray on the handlebars to make the grips slide on easier. Then when the hairspray dries, it sticks the grips to the bar.

You could spray the muffler delete pipe ends with hairspray, install and clamp the hoses to it and let the hairspray dry, those hoses won't go anywhere!

I didn't have any issue getting the pipe to stay put without flaring the ends. If the pipe is the right size, just tighten it down good and you will be fine. There isn't enough pressure to cause an issue. Just make sure there isn't any coolant on the pipe or hose from the reservoir being moved. (The tank has a tendency to leak a little when moved.)

I like the hairspray idea; I've never heard that one before!

I have had it on my 2011 since day one and it may not make the car any faster but throttle response is better. It a bit louder but it's been 2 years since I did it so I don't remember stock. I like it, especially for the diy price.

So you left it 'stock' and you did not flare the ends? You just made your own pipe and used the stock clamps? Cheers

There is no need to flare the pipe. I understand the concern, but you won't have any problems as long as you have the right size pipe (2" OD) and clamp it down good.

I typically use the NM or the Forge pipes as they fit great, and I like the silicone hoses.
I have found that this mod DOES improve the throttle response. I'm not saying it gives you 50hp, but the response is noticeable.

I installed this pre-intercooler cooling pipe in place of the muffler on my Countryman. I haven't noticed any ill effects.

I looked into getting that one as well, but wasnt sure if the added $32 over a regular exhaust pipe was worth it. I just feel like the air passes through that pipe so fast that the heat sink wouldnt even be worth it, on top of that, the air that passes through is heated up a good bit from the turbo. Just my 2 cents.

I think its interesting as well that this pipe is 9" and not the commonly used 8". I am sure that a longer pipe would help it stay on a little better. I think that when I do it I may go 8.5 since 9 seems to fit fine.

Yeah, I doubt it has a significant cooling effect since it's so short. But it's cheap enough that I didn't really debate about it.

I have it on my 2013 S for about a year. Throttle response got better. Will not sound like crap but more natural air sound. Best deal instead of spending $100+ for the same thing from others. If your gonna spend $100+ might as well go with the Alta pipe.
