Gains from Engine Modifications

I have been looking through Alta's inventory, specifically their induction and exhaust upgrades, and all of the dyno sheets indicate increases in peak horsepower and torque at revs ranging from 4800 to 5000 + RPM. Does anyone who has any of these parts (CAI, exhaust, replacement boost piping) notice a big difference on the street after installing the part(s)? I don't race my car, or anything like that, so I feel like something that adds low down power/torque would be better, but there doesn't seem to be much that does that, lol.

Thanks for the help!
Jason

you wont notice much of a diff with those...they are mostly noise makers only way your going to get that down low increase is from a tune and those are very limited.

Step 1 is to stay away from Alta's JUNK!!!!

If you want more low end power, the only big gains come from an ECU tune.

just save that money you would use on those parts, from what ever verndor it may be, and go for a tune. Quick difference in both power and torque. continue moving FORWARD from there. CAI is money for noise, you'll be fine with a dry drop in filter such as AFE. Then go for a DP or FMIC. you'll be happy.

happy motoring.

Dp I noticed up high but lost power down low and then tune added heaps every where. Boost tubes, fmic, dv, intake and exhaust nothing. This is all going by my butt dyno. It may have made power on the dyno but if I didnt feel it then it didnt count.

those dyno sheets you've seen are not realistic, they are good marketing though.
Intercoolers and downpipes have shown to be the best gains on the turbo MINI.
Feel free to call us and discuss options.

DP and diverter valves are the most "feelable" mods for this car in my opinion. Next being a tune of course.

I have an AP and notice a nice surge in torque from 2500+. Like some of the other comments above, I think that a tune is your best option for low and midrange improvements.

Lets not forget, we are enjoying a 1.6 liter turbo car, factory rated for over 100 hp/liter. Its pretty well tuned from the factory, and there are limited 'easy' improvements to be had.

Have fun,
Mike

With an ECU tune are you trading power for life? Would it shorten your engine life span?

Yes, ish. The more power you put into a engine the more stress you add. that stress tends to stark breaking things.

If you can afford the tune, do that first. I have a few Alta parts and I think they're great, despite what people are saying on here.
