02 Cooper to 07 Copper S Swap - Can it be done

I have an 02 Cooper with a bad tranny. I have the opportunity to get my hands on an 07 S that has been totaled with nothing wrong with the drive train. Is it possible to:

#1 swap out the engine, tranny, computer, etc...
or
#2 just swap the tranny and related parts (I know i will need to swap axles, shift cables, etc...).

One way or another a 6 spd Getrag is going back in it.

Thanks Everyone!!!

Come on guys... Someone out there has got to know what kind of issues this will present. Will it even bolt in without major mods? Can I just swap the ECU? Someone, anyone....

I suggest you do some measurements....
The gen2 car IS BIGGER...
GOOD LUCK....might need lots of customaztion....think custom cv joints, etc. The high degree of intergration in the gen2 computer will likely be a huge issue...if you have tons of $$$ and lots of skill, could be interesting, but i bet more $$ than a new motor!!
one idea...
there are tons of gen1 motors from cvt's around...cheap.why not take a low mile cvt motor and strap on a tranny?

Thanks for the response. I did not realize they were wider. That would be a trick to get things lined up right. Not sure if I am interested in doing that. I don't mind customization (I have done a lot on classic cars in the past), but that sounds like a little more than I am willing to deal with right now. The price was right for the car... so if I could have done it without dumping several more thousands in it I may have tried it. I won't have a lot of time either, maybe a week.

Thanks again!

Different engine, different mounts, different plumbing (intake/exhaust), different <insert items here>. This isn't a transplant, it's a transformation. Just trying to get the new engine to talk to all the interior components could be a big task. There are better solutions.
