Turbo exhaust manifold

I was thinking of putting the my motor works turbo exhaust manifold on my 11 mcs soon. Was looking for DIY for installing but came up empty handed. Has anyone done this before ? Is it that hard to do ?

I have. I just don't have a how to on it. Get a Bentley manual that will cover it pretty well.

Did u have to pull the front end out to do yours? I think they call it "service mode" or something like that.

You can do it without it, but I find that working on any component on that side of the engine is worth the extra 45 minutes it takes to put the bumper in service mode. It makes working in that area a breeze!

I was hoping there was a way without taking the front of the car apart. I can just see many clips breaking or not fitting right when I put it back together. It's deceiving when u look at the turbo it looks like it can just pop out from the top

It is possible without service mode. Also a word of advice while you are in there is to replace the oil lines. You are going to have to remove the turbo so there is a high chance of cracking the top line. Plus it is good maintenance since they will fail.

Thanks for the advise porthos. Even tho the car only has 7000 miles on it I would probably change what I can. Still haven't decided if changing the manifold is worth it yet .

Thanks for the link. I'm probably gonna buy the kit and just change them both.

Just make sure it includes the flex hose because I ordered mine wrong and got the solid one. Which just means I will have to do the work again down the road.

I'm also interested in impressions about this part. From what Way told me (and totally not his words, strictly my interpretation) it helps with the low end only. Is that what people who have it feel? Is it $500 worth of fun? I'm guessing it is enough for me to gamble and spend the money on it, but I always prefer to hear confident answers from people who have already been down the path I'm thinking of traveling.

I had to do this... its not very hard however it will take time and patience... I myself needed to heat and bend an open ended wrench to get the top "exhaust manifold to head bolt" off thats behind the turbo... (very tedious and time consuming) however I got it off and on without removing anything else relatively easily...

REPLACE ALL CRUSH WASHERS AND O RING FOR THE TURBO COOLANT/OIL LINES
The exhaust manifold gasket is also the heat shield and needs to be replaced as well
I had to use an impact gun to get the 4 bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold off to get the turbo off
I you decide you want to attempt this and need help feel free to call/text me 2017048473
you don't need the manual...

I've been thinking of doing this as well. Very interested in impressions as well. I figure it might be sort of a necessity for the Frankenturbo I'm installing in the semi near future, but I'm even more interested in how it would affect my car as it is. I currently run an AP stage 2 tune with an Akra DP, Quicksilver exhaust and a Helix IC (as soon as that damned group buy happens) if anybody can give some more insight. Also, somebody had mentioned it causes a real gain in low end power. How much are we talking?
