Whose tubes to buy, Alta or MiniMania?

The R56 is fresh out of warranty and I'm thinking about installing a turbo inlet tube and a hot side boost tube. (The car has the JCW cold air intake already installed.)

These tubes are available from both Alta and MiniMania and the prices are fairly close. Other vendor options? Which ones to buy?

What can I expect from these parts? Alta ascribes 10HP to each = 20HP! Wow, really?

Any nasty engine malfunction lights and CPU indigestions?

Experiences, recommendations?

Thanks all.

Don't bother...

Money is best spent on a larger intercooler or catless downpipe.

A tube won't give you 20hp. Ridiculous claims...

Thanks all.

Thank you.

Large intercoolers are heavy, costly and require cutting to fit.

Catless downpipe sounds great but is it not too loud and won't it throw engine codes?

Intercoolers are not heavy, costly, and they don't require cutting to fit lol...get a Helix or Forge.

Catless downpipes are not loud, but it will throw a code, if you are not tuned.

Correction, Alta has some slight cutting. Helix and Forge no cutting.

IMO, get the hot side boost tube and Helix or Forge I/C and get a tune. You'll see increases for sure. Now the DP is a different story, if you have a manual, go for it if you decide to modify your exhaust system, if you're not going to modify the exhaust then forget about it.

On an automatic, I think the DP is pointless, it gets WAY to loud inside the car.

Why would the noise from a DP be different between an auto and manual? I have an Akrapovic on my auto with a custom 2.75" exhaust with a second cat delete and no resonator. It's not too bad (though I'm putting a resonator on to keep the old lady happy).

My buddy had a Riss racing catless on his auto, sounded like crap inside his car. A high flow cat will keep it down a notch.

IMO, I wouldn't even put a DP on an auto cause I'd still be stuck at a Stage 1 tune from NM and RennTech said they would cut the power lower-mid so that the car wouldn't blow it's transmission. But everyone has a different opinion. I will stick without the 8-10hp it would produce for my auto. But if you like it, good, let me know how beastly it will sound after a tune.

Sorry for high-jacking the thread.

Interesting. The noise is just loud and boomy in lower RPMs relative to the OEM exhaust, but nothing ear splitting. And that's sans resonator. It sounds amazing above 3k RPMs. I'm going to get a resonator on there before I tune.

Sorry for my role in the high-jack. Back to tube talk!

tubes won't buy you much

heres my thread on tubes
btw aftermarket IC's are alot heavier than stock, however they are bigger and should cool off better in hot situations , and they should have better internal flows too.

Just another example of someone who hasn't really done their homework..... Wanting others to tell them what to do.

The "MiniMania" tubes are actually from NM Engineering.

I also like how everyone thinks bigger is better, in reality as the only mod it slows down air velocity.

Sounds good. I wasn't aware of the Helix or Forge intercoolers and the Alta requires trimming which is why I thought about staying away from them.

To those asking why or how I came up with these mods the answer is that on a few cars that I've modded in the past the tubes brought about some improvements, albeit minor ones. Other cars did not respond at all or responded with ECU confusions.

Thanks for the input guys.

No problem but do some more search as it will help you finalize your choice.

My other question to you is what year is your MINI?
