If it is just a KO3/KO4 hybrid you can send your turbo into Gpopshop and can get the same thing done for about $300-$500 less.

the response I received via email:

Morgan

Thanks for your interest in our F21M for your car. We are currently testing our hybrid turbo but hope to have good results within the next few weeks. As for your thread, since I am not an advertiser on NAM I wouldn't be able to directly contribute. But you can be assured that we are aware of the other product options available currently and plan to offer a turbo kit whose value and performance is unmatched.

Yours

Tecnica,

My car is actually the test subject for the turbo and is currently being tuned and dynode as we speak. Should have a few numbers to show with the turbo and will be adding corresponding mods as the weeks go on. Just check my build thread for updates.

MCS with hybrid turbo

I have a stock MCS auto 2009. The turbo just baked and seized. Im going to remove the CAT (part of the cause) and have the turbo rebuilt.
If I go with the hybrid k3/k4 turbo do you guys think I will be in danger of damaging the car if I leave the car bone stock with the exception of the CAT delete.

Also without a tune or an intercooler upgrade will I still see an increase in performance?

Bottom line can I upgrade the turbo and run the car without a tune and any further modifications reliably and safely.

I'm sorry to hear about your turbo. But to wander your question, you can't really run the car bone stock. You at least need a tune. In most cases the car will push boost a little differently than stock or even overboost depending on the turbo and the ECU will have none of that. Usually the car will go into limp mode.

I installed the F21 on my car with only an intake and a custom cat back with a fully gutted cat. The car would let me hit boost but would quickly put me in limp. So therefore a tune is needed.

Good luck on your car and turbo adventures!

My car is in Jamaica, is this something that can be remote tuned?

It looks like Doug from Frankenturbo has the hardware part of this kit sorted out. The last time I talked with him, he was working on a tuning solution, which is vital for a successful package. I'm eagerly awaiting results.

If I just deleted the cat and instead replaced with a JCW turbo, do you think I would still have to tune it? Do you think this is a better choice if I don't plan on doing many more mods in the future. My car is a bone stock MCS

These guys are well respected in the VW/Audi world, should be no different here

I'm not familiar with N14/N18 internals but the F21 is strong enough to bend rods. Like another poster said, these are a popular upgrade with VAG cars.

If the Mini tuners can smooth out the torque spikes this could be a great option for people wanting a bigger turbo without going crazy. At least in VW world these would typically require a larger MAF, injectors, TIP, and possibly a manifold.

Doug/Frankenturbo is a good company with great customer service, I hope they can make this work.

Where are these guys located? Can't find any info. I see Westchester County, NY... ummm that is 450 square miles. Koopa is in Rye Brook (in Westchester County), would love more info but its not listed anywhere. Do they have an office? Who provides the tune to make this sucker run as efficiently as possible?

Am I crazy or is this is the same as the G-Pop upgrade? They were priced much lower than this.

Before there can be any of this , we need a really good logger. With Cobb pulling support for the R56, we're left with what? Suggestions?

Yes this turbo, Akrapovic exhaust and a RennTech tune would be a sweet package.

RennTech affiliate PAWMotorSport has tuned a prototype. But my post was to inquire about a free-standing logger for use by another tester. I'm leaning towards this one:

I just bought myself Bavarian Technic last month. Good setup so far. Seems to log similar to that of VAG-Com/VCDS. I need to do some more tinkering....

Doug, any updates?

PAW didn't feel that the ~250whp performance of the prototype was very compelling, so they're going in another direction. Hopefully this thing can find another tuner to give it a whirl.
