Does anyone have a link to an aftermarket coolant expansion tank that fits in the Cooper S? The OEM finally gave up the ghost after running 8 straight runs at the EVO school.

Doesn't have to be polished, just capable of holding fluid without spliiting a seam.

Thanks

Get a new OEM (cloudy greenish) one to replace the old OEM (not so cloudy whitish) one. I did and it improved my coolant spittage by 100%.

My new OEM one is cloudy yellowish instead of whitish but I might be colorblind.

When everyone's the coolant tanks began to rupture, some people went as far as to design and market welded aluminum ones.

Your MINI dealership should give you one for free under warranty.

This should show the difference in appearance between the old and new coolant expansion tanks:

The Forge one appears to have an extra bung hole... I only see two lines going to the OEM reservoir. What is the bung for in the mid front of the Forge part?

I too need to replace my stock reservoir, as it is leaking more than a bit on the seam.

Are you threatening me, Cornholio?

Seriously, if you want something shiny for under the hood bling bling, get the aluminum expansion tank. Personally, the $15 (free if you take the time to go to the dealer for warranty work) stock piece does the trick just fine.

And no, I need no t-p for my bung hole... sheesh...

Anyways, seems like time to make the hour trip to Downtown Mini in Orlando for warranty replacement. Needed to anyways, my boot hatch seems to leak as well. Sucks to have a leaky Mini... maybe I do need some t-p after all?

I think it is a sight window so you can see the fluid level.

When mine started leaking, I contemplated the same. But, with a 1-hour trip each way, plus another hour at the dealer, I decided my time was worth more than $5/hr and I just ordered a new tank from a dealer that does mail order.

I have had the Forge pieces in for about a year now with no problem other than a tiny fitment issue with the upper mount. If the tab had been about a 1/8 " longer it would have been perfect . As it is it doesn't snug down quite as far as I would have liked but overall it is a nice piece of hardware.

No that is a minus with the system as there is NO level indicator. In my case it isnt that much of a big deal as I am a regular fluid level checker from my old 1966 Cooper S days LOL.

It'd be such a simple matter for them to have included a sight glass on the aluminum pieces. I can't eyeball-check the stock tank in daylight because it's just too opaque. I can flashlight check it at night though.
