Drivetrain Mod Advice
Mod Advice
Here is yet another noob looking for some advice on a few planned MODs.
I am looking to get a little more performance out of my Mini yet not destroy my MPG, maybe even increase it, as I drive 50+ miles each way everyday for work.
After reading many threads and listening to the posts from WAY, I am looking at doing a 15% pully, CAI, and new ignition coil/wires and colder NGK iridium plugs.
Does this sound like a good starting point?
Also, while I have everything apart to replace the pully, would that be a good time to change the supercharger oil and the motor mounts?

ya dude. you got the right idea. i did all that, and a 17%. mileage is still similar, unless you gas it. you should be fine.
SC oil change, that seems to be a big debate.... i emailed Ian Stewart, who works in Orlando and does mini stuff, @ Maitland imports. he had this to say about me getting my SC serviced:
"Hey Hampton, Typically the only issue with the Supercharger is that they leak all their fluid out over time. Not usually miles but just time. When they leak all the fluid out they will grind the gears off the back requiring a full rebuild. Typically I do the supercharger oil replacement when doing a clutch as it's much more economical to do it then rather then on it's own. Takes 1 hr to change it when doing a clutch and takes about 5 hrs to do it on it's own. That is really the only service. I typically tell people 7 to 8 years before your on borrowed time with the supercharger oil. I've had them fail with as little as 20k miles but on an 8 year old car. At the same time I've replaced the oil on 4 year old cars with 150k miles and they still had plenty of oil in the case. So my rule of thumb is 7-8 years. Typically around the 90k mark we do Harmonic Balancer, Control arm bushings, Strut mounts and often have serveral small oil leaks that need to be corrected. But these are all per car items and I'd need to look it over before committing to any one of those items. "

Def start with your pulley, intake, and ignition due to the age. I recommend the platnium plugs as they last longer.
For the supercharger oil it seems to be new popular thing people are doing. but honestly in the last 11yrs our shop has only replaced 3 superchargers for the oil being dry out of the water pump gears. So I don't think it's as common problem as it seems to be advertised. But on the other hand we have shipped more rebuilt superchargers than I can count, but not all the failed ones had bad gears. So it comes down to a personal and financial decision on the customer part as it is not a cheap job to just change the oil.
