Modify the lower engine mount inserts for a little less NVH?

I have a Powerflex lower engine mount insert like the one pictured here:

Worked great on my manual '06. Also works great on the automatic '05, but since there is no clutch to disengage the engine from trans, I get a bit too much NVH at a stop light.

I would like to get as much benefit as I can, but cut down on the rattles.

I was thinking about drilling out some material from top to bottom. I would still have the edges so it fits, but have a few holes in it like the factory one already has.

Thoughts on this, or opinions on a better way to go?

Thanks!

-Jac

Poweflex makes their products in different stiffness....the color tells you how stiff they are...
you might be able to buy the same product in a softer polly...thus making less NVH

They do NOT make those engine bushings any softer. Yellow is their softest poly.

You can use one instead of both inserts.

I was thinking about the same thing. I really like the way it feels but with the AC on it gets annoying at stoplights.

Luckily winter is coming so I won't worry about it til next spring.

Definitely interested in your results. I was thinking about trying just one of the inserts first to see if that was a good compromise, then drilling them if I wasn't happy.

I don't know enough about it to know which would be better. I think that just using one 'half' might still pass a lot of NVH, since it 100% fills the void in the factory mount - even if only on one half.

I am going to give the drill out a shot this weekend. Not sure if I will get a chance to install, but I will take pics of the modified part.

Thanks!
