Im curious to know i have seen many comments in articles around these pages about the cooper transmission not holding up to any serious mods whats the deal my theory is as long as you dont powershift and be smooth with it it will work maybe not for 600 horse but at least for 200 and heres another question can the getrag 6 speed be mated to a cooper with out exstensive mods and will the gear ratios work >

I'm on my second tranny first one blew with 12k miles on it bone stock. I was no harder on it than any other car I've ever had. I don't know if it my shifting or not but it seemed to like to miss shifts driving hard. I have not missed a single shift with the new one. But I am a lot more gentle on this one. My guess is that if you give plenty of time for shifting you will have no problem. As far as the 6 speed I looked into it. I don't know of any one who has done it.

did the dealer cover the tranny or did they try to stick you with the bill ? really if the 6 speed ratios work i would really consider doing that before anything else

It was covered by the warrenty. But living in Alaska = no dealer anywhere nearby. I was with out my car for about a month. As far as the six speed goes I think you have to change motor mounts and everything between the motor and the front wheels. I could be wrong but thats my understanding.

Check out the motor for sale on Ebay THat sounds like the most cost effective way to get the six speed. Plus it comes with a better motor

The 5-speed in my cooper went with 3,000 miles on the car. I now have 14,000 miles, and haven't had a problem since. Mini took care of it without any hassles. i have not been easy on the one in the car now, because if it's going to go again, I want it to do it while it's still under warranty. Maybe they have them fixed. I hope so.

When I drive my S hard it likes to grind gears. Trans has not gone out but it sure does **** me off. Never had a shifting problem with any other car so I dont think it's me. Is there a TSB on the trany in relation to this problem. TSB is tech service bulletin.
