Catless DP + Q300 question

Hey guys,

Looking at adding a Catless DP to my Q300 so that I can move to stage 2 maps on the Access Port. My concerns are whether the sound is insanely annoying and whether I should be aware of anything else (I understand the AP codes out eh CEL).

Those of you with this setup or very similar set ups. Any advice is greatly appreciated. The Q300 by itself is fine, not loud to me. But my research on these boards show people saying that the set up is awesome, sick, sweet, etc etc. but I also see posts saying its LOUD!!!

I've listened to some clips and well it sounds manageable to me, but I'm worried that the sound will be just obnoxious when I'm not gunning it and trying to drive like a normal person would.

Thanks in advance.

I'm pairing an Akrapovic DP to a VIP DP series exhaust.

Do keep in mind that there are people who complaing about the DoS intake being loud. Not saying that it won't be too loud for you, just that you should take comments on the volume of a setup with a grain of salt.

I personally think the DoS intake is quite as hell but, that is just me.

catless DP plus 2.5" exhaust will be LOUD.

I have a 2.5" with catless dp with magnaflow resonator and muffler... and it is obnoxious loud. Friends cruising next to me and when I'm going WOT, they can't hear their own car with exhausts. Nvm cruising on the highway at 3k rpm (about 75mph)... I used to love it, and now am so sick of it. Actually going back to stock exhaust decatted now.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, which is why I find it amusing/confusing when I see people comment on how loud it is. Then again, I was also running Headers and a magnaflow exhaust on my previous daily driver so, after that, everything this side of straight pipes sounds quiet to me.

Here is mine before the catlessDP
After..

Then again, the magnaflow is a lot louder to begin with than the Q300, much more growl imo. Though, regardless, it'll get raspier with the catless dp.

Note the before video doesn't have a resonator on the magnaflow. Just 2.5" straight pipe to the muffler

Hey thanks for your guys replies. I mean ultimately, I'd love to hear one in person to decide, but unfortunately I do not know anyone running this setup or a catless exhaust system on a R56 local to me.

Oddly, I used to drive a turbo IS300 that was catless with just a resonator + muffler and honestly, it was pretty damn quiet for what it was. I imagine it has to do with more piping relative to the MINI. But... anyway thanks for the feedback and I welcome any more anyone might have.

You were running a header?

It was in my previous car, a Mazda6 S which had a V6, so it was headers. The car was modified as much as the rules of SCCA's ST class would allow me to, and was a daily driver and regular autocross sled. Got 135k and 4 relatively problem free years out of that car.

Benny, have you had any issues with the clamps on your Q300? Curious, about to pick up the exhaust and have been hearing issues that the tubes occasionally get loose with the clamps forcing people to weld the whole thing together.

Maybe this helps you, maybe not. I put on the OBX on my car without the catless downpipe at first and it had a little bit of a higher tone similar, at least to me, to the Q300. I was a little afraid the catless DP would make it annoyingly loud but after putting it on I was pretty happy. It sounds a little more full, more body, without being overly obnoxious. I have no drone, definitely happy with the combo right now. I have no cats.

DChase- I haven't had any major issues with the clamps *knock on wood. Fitment on the exhaust was a little strange though. I haven't mated the down pipe to the exhaust, and I'll probably wait a couple months as I have other goodies coming in..

Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely sounds positive in terms of sound etc.

What was strange about the fitment? I've got the Q300 on the way if you have any other install tips as well.

Are you on an R56? I'm not sure whether or not it was just because I have the Coupe (R58), or because it's a 2012, but the Q300 connection to the downpipe did not fit properly for me. My buddy and I had to cut the end of the exhaust off by about a quarter to a half inch and grind it down pretty good to get it to fit into the v-clamp section.

Also, there was no way in hell we were going to get it to fit with the existing gasket, so we had to toss that out and just use the v-clamp.

It may be a 2012 thing, but I'm not sure. Only other person I had say something about it was another R58.
