New hood vents

Just came back from a day at a race and while looking at all the GTRs, M3 etc, I noticed that most had aftermarket hoods with louvres or Cooling vents in them. As the Duell seems the only pricey option I was thinking of cutting some vents to let some hot air out. Where do people think the most effective place would be? Just above the scoop, further back towards the screen, either side of the engine in the middle or over the wings. Advice feedback appreciated before I start cutting!

I believe someone on here has done something like that. If I remember correctly it was a BRG and he placed louvers behind the scoop between the scoop and the windshield. Not really a fan of chopping up a good hood but if it suits you enjoy.

I think as close to the turbo the better. Maybe on either side of the scoop, that way you done lose function of the scoop its that's working with your intake.

Hi,

What about the latest version of the challenge car scoop with vents?

http://www.minigenuineparts.co.uk/mi...engeScoop.html

Unfortunately very pricey.

Hi Robbo. I saw that challenge scoop...OUCH! That's a lot for some plastic! It's even got holes in it!

If the vents were in back of the scoop, between it and the windscreen, would the air come through the scoop and the hot air out of the vents?

Maybe next to the turbo as Malcon suggested. I have no problem with the cutting and the doing, just want the best place to put the vents. Are they necessary at all?

Cheers

If your not using the scoop for air intake air then the scoop behind the intake scoop would circulate the air nicley.
M7 had a scoop setup for the R53 that did this... and helps the air move through the ic..

this may work great for this model.

That's what I'm talking about Malcon! Wouldn't that be a great under hood cooling option? Now I just need something that fits the R56...

That R53 M7 piece is awesome. If I could find something that matched the R56 design I would be willing to chop up my hood.

I doubt it would take that much to modify this piece to work with the newer hood.
or maybe redesign it..

My guess is most hood venting on the mini is going to be more aesthetic than functional.

That said I thing these look pretty good:

I think any venting would help at some extent. And be aesthetic.

your correct. But these seem faily easy to engineer yourself if you want a hood vent project.
Looks great!

I think Gnat's car has TR7 vents molded into the hood; and it looks badass!

I love them they keep a lot of heat out and I have covers for when it’s raining. Still working on carbon fiber and fiberglass ones

To make them more effective, you need to add a little gurney flap at the leading edges of the openings. That will help create a low pressure area right to help with extraction.

Do you have photos of the under/backside?

You may be able to use those as molds for the carbon or glass parts with hand lay up. Interested from a composites tech stand point... technical curiosity ya know.

Love the idea of folks making there own carbon parts. Post up as it goes, would love to see those done in carbon!

Nice fabrication by the way!
