It's a blizzard outside and it doesn't look like I'll be able to test this Alta intercooler anytime soon

It also got rid of the inner scoop trim so it can swallow more air along with all the original mounting brackets. What do you guys think? Anyone else done this?

What? Where's Randy's front mount intercooler?

Seriously - nice stuff you got there. Try not to stencil letters all over this one, eh?

If you don't beat me on the dyno, I'm going to laugh at you!

Or, you can send it to me overnight and let me test it in this crazy 90 degree winter weather

Seriously, that looks very nice. I hope she gives you 10+hp as that seems to be possible...

Where are the other air-to-air intercoolers that are suppose to be coming to market? I heard RDR might have one. The price of Alta is quite high. I heard there will be other similiar models in the $500 range coming out sometime.

I sure hope to do better than you on the dyno even though you've got a "hot" stock rating on your last dyno

I appologize for the red x's. Fixed it and it went bad again. Something wrong with Yahoo's hosting site so now it's on NAM. These are the after PICs.

The Alta oil catch can now includes instructions for 02 and 03 models. The 02 mounting location is one everyone is familiar with situated in front of the engine mount. The 03 (mine) location is positioned next to the anti-lock system and requires extra tubing and holes to be drilled into the cowl. Sounds messy, not to mention too confined for maintance. Not for me. I liked the 02 solution better. After a few martinis

Next, test drive Now it's like pea soup outside. Just can't win

Ah, MISFIT, you beat me to the punch! That is the same mounting point I have been configuring for my catch can. I'm surprised Alta didn't figure it out. Mine is a custom fab'd aluminum tank. I know. Now I'm gonna catch hell from everyone because I said I would have it out months ago...I've had "issues" in my life. Oh well.
Congrat's on your car it's gonna be hot!

Looks like Alta hasn't sold many of these intercoolers...hmmmmm I must be their only customer. Something I don't know?

Everything looks great with the install. did you install it yourself? I would love to get an upgraded intercooler, but the prices are too high right now for me. I will wait for a while. thanks for the pics and the info.

MISFITOY,
Great install and pictures. Thanks.
Let us know how it all works for you when the weather gets nice and you get on a track.
The RDR larger intercooler through Helix13 is what I am waiting for. It'll cost less and hopeful be decent to cause a bit better pricing for all the larger intercoolers. Besides Alta, RDR makes good stuff too.

MSFITOY,

Smooth man, I like it. The color contrast in your engine bay looks great as well. I have a question regarding the catch-can. Did you stick your finger in the stock intercooler to see how much oil had accumulated? If so, was it a significant amount? Also, how many miles on your car now?

Thanks guys

I'm up waaaaayyyyytooooolate...started to watch F1 in Malaysia and decided to tape it.

Does the catch can work? I don't know yet but you can see the PIC below and see the brown puddle of oil at the bottom of the rubber bellows after I removed the stock intercooler after 9k. Don't think I want that inside my new intercooler. I took her out for a brief run and my butt meter thinks it's added someething. Hard to tell because it was a night out with the Mrs who's 6 months pregnant

Thanks for the pic's. I have a 04 MCS and did install the Alta Catch Can in the cowl area. Think I'll re-do it like yours as I like that location much better. Suggestion.. Noticed you had to shim the bracket to clear the motor mount. Not much threads left, hope you used loc-tite on the nut.

There's plenty of thread left really. My next step when my work shop is in better shape is to fabricate a Z bend bracket and eliminate the shims.

Do me a favor and connect a boost gague up. With this intercooler I lost about 2-3 PSI. I wonder if you will have the same experience.

I'm working on the boost guage. I hope that's not true. What about your power gain?

Did you have any problems with clearance on the xenon/washers. I modified one of the brackets for the bottom but it barely cleared(scraped/rubbed) the washers so I moved it to the cowl. So was this an issue for you?

As I have it located (shown in my PICs), it doesn't touch anything except a small spot where it's resting against the ground bolt. Dyno this Saturday

True its more efficient but I lost boost. I didnt really see a gain from the small testing that I did. Lack of mounting points and rubbin off my paint from under the hood was also disapointing. I hope that I had a early production model. Please report back with your results. Clearly people didnt listen when I brought this up before but if you have the same results maybe folks will listen.
