Need new upper engine mount - VibraTechnics?

Like many people before me I just noticed a gooey mess under my oem upper engine mount. I've been looking around at oem alternatives and found one made by Vibra-Technics. Seems like a good unit but there is very little written about it on this forum. If any on you have experience with it, please post your observations. thanks

Never mind, found it here http://www.vibra-technics.co.uk/mini...d_engine_mount

It looks promising however its from UK so I imagine shipping to be lengthy and expensive.

Also, at $307 you could buy 2 or 3 OEM mounts... so I guess it just depends on your preference. The OEM mount is hydraulic filled (obviously) which makes it the smoothest and most vibration eliminating of all mounts. However, you *will have to deal with replacement at what would seem like a regular interval of 20-50k miles.

The vibra-technics mount is a solid rubber mount, see explanation here: http://www.vibra-technics.com/about_us

I would expect this to put more power to the ground however will also give a harsher feel with more vibrations being transmitted from the engine to the the passengers (you). This can also create annoying interior rattles which would drive me nuts. So personally I 'd stick with replacing the OEM mount every 30k miles or so for $90 offline.

If you wouldn't mind a solid motor mount, then I don't see how that one would behave much differently than TSW's which you can find on Way's http://www.waymotorworks.com/tsw-eng...6-r50-r53.html

Since both are solid mounts, then I can only assume they'd both behave similarly. Some people don't mind the TSW, some people hate them. If I were to take a chance, I'd rather take a chance with $200 than with $300. Plus, should you come to any issues with the mount, at least WAY is stateside. I'd hate to have to deal with customer service from a company across the pond...

Its expensive but appears to be a good unit. From the limited info I've found it supposed to be a good balance between performance vs nvh

As for stateside service I'm still waiting for a response on my TSW springs which I bought a year ago. Customer service can't get worse than that.

Jeesh, after a year I'd say its safe to give up on that. What supplier did you buy the springs off of?

I'd probably still wait to hear personal testimonials of the vibra technics product before buying. You may have better luck finding someone on one of the other mini forums as I tend to find more people posting on those from the UK.

I recently switched from the TSW to the VibraTechnics. The VibraTechnics is entirely different from the TSW. In the VT, the vibration damper is isolated from the mount so that vibration to the chassis is minimized. The TSW has no such isolation. After installing the VT, I started the car and of course you could see and feel engine vibrations; but touching the mount, there was no vibration. It was impressive.

I think it is worth spending the extra money on the VibraTechnics. It is a quality piece that fit perfectly in my car. I am very pleased with the VT mount.

I have a Vibratechnics mount as well...

It is a high quality piece and does a great job of minimizing motor movement. I also have poly inserts in the lower bushing and tranny mount, so not sure how much can be attributed to the VT mount. But I think it was completely worth it and highly recommend it. They also shipped very promptly.

I know someone locally (CA) who you can get them from if you don't want to order directly from them...I think he might be a little cheaper as well...and might even have a couple in stock if I remember correctly...PM if interested

I have one on the way. From what I've read it's much, much better than the TSW mount!!

Also, from their site; "The Fast Road mounts give significant improvements in ride and handling without adversely affecting vibration isolation"

Wow. I'm surprised to hear all the good feedback on this mount!
The TSW does look a little harsh with the rubber solid mount and the bolt/damper. I wonder what helps isolate the vibrations in the VT mount. It does look more professional than the TSW that's for sure..

astrochex, when you say you could see and feel vibrations but touching the mount they were not present.... do you mean by looking/touching the engine you could see and feel vibrations or from within the driver's seat you could see/feel vibrations?

Firstly, I touched the engine at idle then the VT mount at idle. I had not done that with the TSW, so I can't compare in that sense. But the vibration is reduced inside the car with the VT compared to the TSW. Part of what I felt with the TSW, however, was likely due to me not properly adjusting the length of the aft fastener.

This VT mount is nice in the sense that you don't have to worry about improperly adjusting that silly fore/aft fastener like on the TSW..

there's only one dealer for the TSW springs. It happens to be the same dealer you suggested on the engine mount. Hence my reluctance.

Yes, I want testimonials. I suppose that's my reason for this thread before I shell out $300

This must be the most discussion on the VT mount on this forum. After the positive comments I've decided to pull the trigger. Thanks to all of you that have used this mount and given feedback.

You will be very pleased. The street mount even works without the decal.

Are US orders shipped from the UK? How much was the total, including shipping?

I read that the sticker helps absorb NVH

I've got one of the upper and lower mounts from VT and love them, even took the TSW engine damper off as it's not needed now. One thing I would mention is that it takes a few hundred miles for the mounts to settle in and the nvh to drop a bit. I didn't mind it but others might not, so give them a chance.

The TSW is made of urethane which is more durable than rubber. It also has a dog bone that pivots. I thought it was rather expensive for $200 when I ordered it but worth to the feel of rawness and power delivery it gave to my car. NHV? can't tell because I already have the BHS lower mount (street ver) which is also made of solid urethane but very liveable.

My problem with the TSW mount is the NVH and that dog-bone directly imparts the force of the motor movement into the shock tower, exactly what it was not designed for, I have seen it rip the lug right out of the shock tower as a result of that.
That in fact is what turned me onto this mounting system.

70K? You're lucky. My car has barely 1/2 that. Might want to order a mount now to keep it handy or just for an upgrade.

My first OEM mount died at 24,000. The next one petered out at 64,000. No more support of a poor design from me! Bring on the aftermarket for a better product. Hopefully I'll hear from ColinGreene soon to place an order for the VT.

Looky looky.

btw, Colin is a great guy to deal with both pre-sales and (more importantly) after-sales service. As far as product quality I think the picture speaks for itself.
